Stoup Brewing Prepares For Their 4th Anniversary

There are a number of breweries in Seattle that have been around and been popular for several years.  As a result, it’s sometimes easy to forget that some the most popular breweries in Seattle today are actually quite young.  One such youngster among us is Stoup Brewing Company in Ballard.

Not quite 4 years old now, Stoup has amassed a loyal following thanks to beers like their extremely popular Citra IPA and their award winning Robust Porter and Russian Imperial Stout.  Not content with just a single celebration this year, Stoup has decided to stretch out their 4th Anniversary celebration in to a week full of events.

Four Breweries Team Up To Host Ballard Oktoberfest

Is it really getting to be that time already?  Summer, especially in Seattle, always seems so darn short.  A couple of weeks ago I was already seeing pumpkin beers appearing on craft beer store shelves and now, here come the Oktoberfest announcements.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love Fall and the Seasonal craft styles that come along with it, but it’s a bittersweet reminder that the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer and Summer is starting to fade.

Of course, as I just mentioned, Fall’s arrival also means Oktoberfest biers and Oktoberfest celebrations.  The Märzen/Oktoberfest style is probably my favorite style of Lager.  Sure, a well made Pilsner is great on a hot Summer day, but I love the more toasty malt flavors of a good Märzen.  If you’re also a fan of a good Märzen and other German/European styles (Hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen, Kölsch, Vienna Lager, Roggenbier, etc.) then you’ll want to mark your calendar for September 16th and this year’s Ballard Oktoberfest.

Stoup Brewing Is Preparing To Throw A Yard Party

We’ve been having a great Summer in Seattle.  It’s been wonderfully warm (Oh, stop complaining! How often do we get the heat?  Plus, it’s cooler again this week.)  We broke the record for number of days without rain at 52 (breaking the old record of 51 set in 1951), and great, locally-brewed, Summertime craft beers are on tap everywhere you look.  We won’t discuss the BC smoke though…

Stoup Brewing Company has been enjoying all that beautiful weather out there too and now they’re preparing to host their largest event of the Summer – a yard party on Saturday, August 26th from 2 pm to 10 pm.  They’ll have great beer (of course!), lots of food, live bands and activities for the whole family thanks to the Seattle Children’s Museum.

Stoup Brewing Announces Upstairs At Stoup Event Space

Do you ever find yourself in need of an event space; perhaps even one that serves craft beer?  We’ve all got that occasional work meeting or family and friends get together where it would be nice to have a large, dedicated event space, rather than try to cram everyone into a house that can’t really fit everyone.

Well, Stoup Brewing Company is ready to help.  Available for reservations now is ‘Upstairs At Stoup’, their new event space with enough capacity for over 40 guests (60-70 if you only need standing room).

Nearing The Halfway Point Of Seattle Beer Week #8 – UPDATED

Today, Monday May 16th, is day number 5 of Seattle Beer Week #8, which means we’re about halfway through.  Things kicked off last Thursday at Reuben’s Brews with the official tapping of the first keg of the official Seattle Beer Week beer: Daily Pale, followed by the opening night pub crawl.  I had to drop by Reuben’s, of course, for the kickoff and then found my way to Beveridge Place Pub for stop #3 on the crawl.

Since then, the events have been coming pretty much non-stop.  The highlights for me so far have been the Underberg Back In Black Stout Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe, Satanic Metal C.O.W. Night at Toronado and, even though I had to leave a bit early, Firestone Walker & Holy Mountain last night at The Pine Box.

October Events With Counterbalance Brewing

Counterbalance Brewing Company hasn’t been around for too long.  They first opened their doors just this past February in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood and have been growing in popularity ever since.  I need to visit a bit more often but, so far, I’m a big fan of their Bad Wolf Dark Ale in particular and their Kushetka Russian Imperial Stout.

I recently featured Counterbalance Brewing (along with several of their neighbors) in a piece about visiting Seattle’s South End breweries.  Now, with October upon us, you have even more reasons to come visit Counterbalance.  They have several events lined up throughout the month, starting with today’s release of their Tabletop Supernova Imperial IPA.  Also, coming up soon is their Mariners/Sounders Doubleheader, which I told you about back in August.

12 Breweries, 5 Events And Triple The IPA Goodness – UPDATED 2/10

India Pale Ale was originally brewed with just slightly higher alcohol and more hops than standard Pale Ales or Porters of the day.  People often believe that the IPA style was specifically formulated with much higher alcohol and higher hop concentration, in order to help the beer survive the long (4 month) voyage from England to India.  However, the myth that IPA was far higher in alcohol or that it needed that higher alcohol and/or higher hop concentration to survive the journey has been debunked.  After all, Porters and even standard Pale Ales were able to make the same trip just fine without spoilage.

Even so, the IPA style continued to grow in popularity and has evolved considerably since it’s first appearance in England in the mid 18th century.  Today, American craft brewers have really taken the IPA style and run with it.  They’ve diversified the style with several different varieties of hops, increased the level of alcohol and the amount of hops used, and eventually created the Double or Imperial IPA and, later, the Triple IPA.
