Bruery Terreux Releases Saison Ardennes

While it’s true that IPAs tend to dominate the craft beer World, I’ve also seen quite a bit of support for many other craft styles, including many Belgian styles. This is evident in the popularity of breweries like Holy Mountain, Engine House No. 9, De Garde and many, many more.

Another popular brewery that excels at producing Beigian style Ales is Bruery Terreux – a brand from The Bruery in Orange County, California that exclusively focuses on and explores the sour and wild side of beer. Bruery Terreux is pleased to announce their latest release: Saison Ardennes – a food-friendly, oak foeder-aged, Belgian-style farmhouse Ale.

Firestone Walker’s Barrelworks Releases Bretta Rose Batch No. 005

Are you a fan of sour or wild ales?  Not everyone is and that’s just fine by me.  Fewer fans simply means there’s more for those of us who do enjoy them to drink.  For those who do enjoy them though, we have some breweries here in the Northwest who excel at making incredible sour and wild ales, including Holy Mountain, Urban Family, Engine House Number 9, Cascade and more.

Though I’m a huge fan of Washington (and Oregon) brewed beers, I don’t hide the fact that several of my favorite breweries are, in fact, from California including one of my all time favorites: Firestone Walker Brewing Company.  Firestone’s Barrelworks Wile Ale program has it’s roots all the way back in 2006, when Barrelworks’ Master Blender, Jim Crooks, took a trip to Belgium to work with Lauren Salazar (New Belgium Brewing).  He returned with some dregs from one of their 15 or so Foeders and placed it into a French oak wine barrel of freshly filtered and un-carbonated Firestone DBA. This experiment was the foundation of what would eventually become Barrelworks’/Firestone Walker’s Agrestic Ale.  Continue reading

Payette Brewing Releases A New Year-Round Sour

I first told you about Payette Brewing Company back in February of 2016.  Their beers were just arriving in Washington State, including their Rustler IPA, North Fork Lager, and Rodeo Rye Pale (Spring seasonal).

Now, Payette is preparing to release their next year-round offering: Aura Guava & Hibiscus Sour Ale.  Payette has been putting out sours in 22 oz bottles for a while, and Aura Guava & Hibiscus was the standout from their rotating 22 oz sour series.  It became popular enough that canning seemed to be the next logical step.

Brother Barrel Hosts Pucker Up: Washington

Are you a fan of sour ales and sour ciders?  Not everyone is.  I wasn’t always a fan of sours.  Ten years ago, the very idea seemed odd to me.  Why would I want a sour beer, I thought to myself?  Then again, most people don’t consider bitter a flavor they seek out, yet IPA is the most popular style of craft beer around (even before they style became flooded with murky, ‘juicy’ IPAs that taste more like citrus juice).

As with many things, the enjoyment of sour ales can be an acquired taste.  Elliott Bay Brewing‘s Brother Barrel location understand this and would like to give you the opportunity to taste a few of their own sours, along with sour ales and ciders from other local local producers.  They’ll all be coming together at Brother Barrel one week from today for their first ever special event: Pucker Up: Washington.

Lucky Envelope Brewing Celebrates Their 2nd Anniversary During Seattle Beer Week

Seattle Beer Week is just around the corner.  It kicks off on Thursday, May 4th and runs through Sunday May 14th.  Just two days into the festivities though, on May 6th, Lucky Envelope Brewing is set to celebrate their 2nd Anniversary.

Lucky Envelope has been cranking out craft beers in Ballard since 2015 and now, they’re ready to mark the occasion with a new Anniversary IPA and three bottle releases.  Then, one week after their anniversary, they’ll be hosting another event as part of their celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Corvus Kriekus Arrives This Weekend From Black Raven Brewing


Are you a fan of Sour Ales?  Just a few years back, I wasn’t.  I hadn’t discovered them yet and decided that the best way to introduce myself to them would be attending the annual Sour Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe.  The first time I attended was back in 2011 and, since then, my love for sour beers has grown exponentially.

We’re fortunate in the Seattle area to have several local breweries that make some excellent Sour Ales.  One of those breweries is Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) out of Redmond.  This coming Saturday, October 8th, Black Raven is set to release the 2016 vintage of Corvus Kriekus.  This tart Ale is made using locally-sourced ‘Van’ and ‘Black Republican’ cherries from Wenatchee, WA.
