Craft Beer Monger’s Picks For Seattle Beer Week 11

Even though I knew it was coming, Seattle Beer Week (SBW) kind of snuck up on me this year. I can’t believe it kicks off in just 2 days! There are a few events that happen each year that I usually attend so I’m set there. However, I didn’t find much time until this past weekend to look over the rest of this year’s SBW events and choose which ones I’d either like to attend myself and/or that I’d like to suggest to you. I’m here to fix that.

How about you? Have you found the time to look over the ever growing list of events on the official Seattle Beer Week website? If not, don’t worry. I took the time to read through the details of every event that’s been posted for this year’s festivities, and I’m here to give you my suggestions for the best events to pick from for Seattle Beer Week #11.  Here we go!

Gilbert’s Cheese Experience Comes to Stoup Brewing For Seattle Beer Week

What pairs best with craft beer? That’s a big question and the answer can vary widely depending on what kinds of foods and what styles of craft beers you’re talking about. Do you have any favorite food(s) you enjoy pairing with your favorite beers? You can pair pretty much any type of food with craft beer as long as you stick to the basics of pairing. Do you want the beers you’re paring your foods with to compliment those foods with a similar flavor profile, contrast those foods to help balance things out, or do you want to use the food as a palate cleanser between dishes/courses?

One of the most popular foods to pair with craft beer is cheese. There is such a diversity in the taste, texture and aroma of cheeses that you can really get into exploring different paring options and have a lot of fun with it. If this sounds like something you might enjoy then you’ll want to mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 14th during Seattle Beer Week, when Stoup Brewing Company will host Gilbert’s Cheese Experience for their Seattle debut. Four different Stoup beers will be paired with four different cheeses from Gilbert’s, allowing you to explore and find your favorite pairing.

Join Lagunitas For Their Seattle Beer Week 10 Kickoff Event Featuring Tri-County IPA

It’s almost here. Seattle Beer Week 10 kicks off tomorrow with well over 200+ events at more than 100+ locations around the Sound. If you’re still having trouble deciding which events to attend, you can check out Craft Beer Monger’s Picks For Seattle Beer Week 10 (SBW10). It should give you some idea of the types of events that will be happening during the week you may want to attend but is, by no means, meant to be a comprehensive list of all SBW10 events (for that you can check out the official events list on the SBW website).

Early last year, Lagunitas Brewing Company arrived in Seattle, taking over the space formerly occupied by Hilliard’s Brewing.  Being so new in town in 2017 though, they didn’t have much going for SBW last year.  This year, however, they’re all set to jump right in with their SBW10 Kickoff event, which features their first Seattle brewed and Seattle-area sourced beer: Tri-County IPA.  You might recall that, last year, Lagunitas brewed their first Seattle-exclusive release, Beard And Bine IPA.  That beer, however, was more crowd-sourced with ingredients from Lagunitas’ barley and hop farming partners.  Lagunitas is also pleased to welcome aboard Dan Schmelzer as the new head brewer at their Seattle Taproom & Beer Sanctuary.

Hop House Hosts The 2nd Annual Eastside Brewer’s Showcase

Last year, I told you about a new palace in Redmond called Growler USA. They were the newest location for the company, which has locations in over 19 states including Hawaii and Washington State (Vancouver).  Less than a year after opening however, Greg and Ann Humes – who ran the Redmond location for Growler USA – decided they’d rather be independent. So they broke ties with Growler USA and re-branded themselves as Hop House.

Freed from their corporate shackles, so to speak, Greg and Ann were free to curate their local tap selections as they saw fit, bring in more imports and actually reduce their total number of taps from 105 down to 75, in order to make more room for local liquors as well. Now, with Seattle Beer Week 10 (SBW10) about to kick off, Hop House has a few events they’d like to share, to bring a bit of SBW10 to the East side.

Craft Beer Monger’s Picks For Seattle Beer Week 10

Ten years ago.  That’s when it all began.  That’s when Seattle area craft beer lovers got to experience the first ever Seattle Beer Week and the first ever official Seattle Beer Week beer (a double IPA from Pike Brewing Company).  Back then, many of our favorite local craft breweries and craft beer bars didn’t even exist yet.  Whereas today, it seems, we have a craft brewery or craft beer bar around almost every corner.

More craft breweries and more craft beer bars means even more Seattle Beer Week events.  Are you ready?  Surviving the week (actually 11 days) will take careful planning. I’m here to give you some suggestions on which events you might want to check out.  So sit back, if you’ve managed to pick up any yet, grab yourself a can of this year’s official Seattle Beer Week beer – Citrus Galaxy IPA from Georgetown Brewing Company – and take a look a Craft Beer Monger’s Picks for Seattle Beer Week 10.

Cheese Wars Returns To Hellbent Brewing For Seattle Beer Week 10

Cheese is addictive. That’s not just an opinion.  There have even been studies done that show that cheese may even be as addictive as heroin. Well, despite that conclusion, I’m not ashamed to say that I’m hooked.  I’m a cheese addict, and I know many others who are as well.

Hellbent Brewing Company has picked up on this. Last year during Seattle Beer Week #9, they hosted an event called Roquefort One: A Cheese Wars Story, where they pitted two local food trucks against each other in an ultimate cheesy, beer-fueled competition to raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Roquefort One was such a success, that Hellbent is bringing the event back next month for Seattle Beer Week 10.  This year it’s The Peach & the Pig vs. Wicked Good Grinders in Cheese Wars: The Last Cheddai.  The Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion will also be back this year in full costume to make this an event to remember.  Don’t worry though, no Bothans died to bring you this information.

Get Your Tickets Now for Women In Beer From Pike Brewing

Last month was women’s history month. I hope you took the time to celebrate some of the amazing women in our nation’s history – and those around you every day. Well, that special month may be over but that’s no reason to stop celebrating women.

Coming up in May, during Seattle Beer Week #10, Pike Brewing Company is once again hosting their Women In Beer event to celebrate women who are a part of the Northwest craft beer industry, along with women owned and run restaurants, cideries, wineries, confectioners and more.

Craft Beer Monger’s Top Picks For Seattle Beer Week #9

Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the past year has flown by so quickly.  Seattle Beer Week #8 almost feels like it was just a few weeks ago.  Yet here we are, with Seattle Beer Week #9 kicking off in just two days.  Have you had an opportunity to look over the ever-growing list of events on the official Seattle Beer Week website?  With so many events to choose from, many of which happen on the same day or even at the same time, you may have to make some difficult choices regarding which events to attend.  Here are my top picks for Seattle Beer Week #9.

Things get under way with the Official Seattle Beer Week Kickoff this Thursday, May 4th.  There are  5 stops on the Seattle Beer Week (SBW) kickoff tour.  Things start off at 4:30 pm at the new Flatstick Pub location in Pioneer Square.  The other stops on this year’s kickoff tour include: Beveridge Place Pub (6:30 pm and Cask-O-Rama will be going on), Brouwer’s Cafe (7:45 pm), Naked City Brewery & Taphouse (9:00 pm), with the evening closing out at The Pine Box (10:30 pm).

The Brewmaster’s Taproom Is Hosting A BBQ To Benefit Rez Dog Rescue

One of the things that many people enjoy about the local craft beer scene is that the majority of craft breweries and craft beer bars (at least those that don’t serve their own food) are dog-friendly.  That means we’re free to bring our well-behaved, furry, four-legged family members along with us when we visit many of our favorite craft beer spots.

Sadly, there are still too many dogs out there who are in desperate need of help, and that’s where rescue organizations like Rez Dog Rescue come in.  With a focus on the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation and Yakima County in-general, Rez Dog Rescue does all they can to help abused, injured and unwanted dogs and cats and help them find their furever homes.  To help them in their mission, The Brewmaster’s Taproom in Renton is hosting a BBQ fundraiser during Seattle Beer Week, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit Rez Dog Rescue.

Bale Breaker’s Fresh Off The Farm IPA Goes On Tap For Seattle Beer Week 2017

Seattle Beer Week is almost here.  Things get under way next Thursday the 4th with the Kickoff night tour and, of course, the on-tap launch of the Official beer of Seattle Beer Week 2017: Fresh Off The Farm IPA from Bale Breaker Brewing Company.

Each year, Seattle Beer Week (SBW) partners with a different Washington brewery (or, in the case of SBW #6 in 2014, they partnered with six breweries), to produce the Official beer of SBW.  This year Bale Breaker is honored to be the first brewery from Yakima Valley to be selected.  In addition to brewing the official beer of SBW 2017, Bale Breaker also has several events setup throughout the week.
