One of the South end breweries I’ve been telling you about since they first opened in 2014 is Tin Dog Brewing down in South Park. Proprietors Lisa and Eric Rough have been quietly cranking out primarily Belgian inspired wild and sour blended Ales from their spot on S. Cloverdale Street and have garnered a small but loyal following. Last year they won a Gold Medal for Best Sour Beer at the Brewer’s Choice Awards for their Melange Deux and have also won Silver and Bronze medals at last year’s Washington Beer Awards.
Tin Dog doesn’t usually host many big events, but they’ve got one coming up that might pique your interest. On Saturday, February 23rd, you can join Tin Dog for an amazing evening of flamenco, paella and craft beer.
When you head to Safeco Field this year to watch the Seattle Mariners I sure hope you come hungry and thirsty, because the Mariners, Ethan Stowell Restaurants, Centerplate and several local restaurants and breweries have teamed up to make your dining experience for the 2018 season something to remember.
At yesterday’s preview event, I had the opportunity to sample many of the new food and drink offerings you’ll find waiting for you at the ball park this season. You’ll have to come try them all for yourself, perhaps at the home opener next Thursday, March 29th as you cheer on the Mariners against the Cleveland Indians.
Pike Brewing Company has been a fixture of the Seattle craft beer scene since way back in 1989. Founders Charles and Rose Ann Finkel have also been instrumental in helping expand the craft beer scene across Seattle and indeed across the nation. Their tireless work to help promote craft beer as well as all the wonderful craft beer and food parings that are possible out there has been an inspiration to countless brewers and chefs.
Now, Charles and Rose Ann are preparing for Pike’s biggest expansion in over 21 years. Pike Brewing Company is pleased to announce Tankard & Tun. Coming this Summer, Tankard & Tun is a new restaurant, oyster bar and brew deck that will also provide Pike with an expanded brew cellar.
Seattle is known for a lot of different things including coffee, craft beer and, of course, great seafood, and one of the most iconic and well known seafood names in Seattle is Ivar’s. First opened on the Seattle waterfront’s Pier 3 (now Pier 54) in 1938 , Ivar’s has expanded to 26 different locations around Washington state. Their clam chowder (and salmon chowder) have become the stuff of Seattle legend.
Hawaii is also known for it’s great seafood. Ivar’s knows this and is currently featuring some island themed menu choices including: Grilled Opah, Lomi-Lomi Salmon Salad, Coconut and Pineapple Carrot Cake and they’re even currently featuring Kona Brewing Compnay’s Big Wave Golden Ale and their new Hanalei Island Style IPA. Ivar’s is a Seattle icon. They’ve been around since 1938, which is a good 30 years longer than I’ve even been alive. When was the last time you stopped by Ivar’s to enjoy a few drinks and some delicious seafood – especially their award winning Chowders? My wife and I hadn’t been for a visit in quite a while, but stopped by the Salmon House on NE Northlake Way, my favorite Ivar’s location, just last week.
The drinks were great and the food was as good as I remember. I also love the look of the Salmon House. The did a major remodel on the bar about three years ago, and the results are fantastic. If you haven’t been by that location since the remodel, you should check it out.
