Chainline Brewing Hosts Bitter Is Coming II

As the weather gets colder and wetter out there, the Fall and Winter beer releases just keep on coming.  I hope your wallet hasn’t taken too hard of a hit yet, because there are still several more releases to come.  After all, Winter hasn’t even started yet.

Next up for Fall releases is Chainline Brewing Company out of Kirkland.  This coming Saturday, November 18th, they’ll be hosting Bitter is Coming II – Welcome To Winter (& Return of the De-Railer!).  This annual taproom party will be the setting for the release of three special, seasonal beers from Chainline.

Chainline Brewing & Georgetown Brewing Prepare To Release Their Bunk Beds Collaboration

The majority of the craft beer styles we all love to enjoy are Ales.  Pales, IPAs, Stouts, Porters, Browns, Barleywines, Kolschs, Saisons, Lambics and more are all types of Ales.  When most people think of Lagers, they tend to, unfortunately, think of beers like Budweiser, Miller, Corona and the like.  While these brands are lagers (mass-produced, low-quality adjunct Lagers), don’t forget that most classic German beers are also Lagers. They include such classic styles as: Pilsner, Märzen/Oktoberfest, Bock/Doppelbock, Maibock, Helles Lager, Rauchbier and more.

There are also more American style Lagers such as Malt Liquor, Steam Beer (such as Anchor Steam*), Imperial Pilsner as well as Pale Lager and India Pale Lager, which are primarily intended to be lighter bodied versions of their Ale counterparts.  Creating a Pale Lager or India Pale Lager is quite similar to creating a Pale Ale or India Pale Ale, the main difference being the type of yeast used and, of course, the fermentation temperature.  Ales like things a bit warmer (mid to high 60’s), while Lagers like things a bit cooler (mid to high 30’s).

The Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow Returns Next Month

A few years back, IPA fans in Washington were dismayed to discover that Russian River Brewing would no longer be distributing their beers to Washington State.  That meant no more Pliny The Elder or Pliny The Younger for Washington (among many other great Russian River beers).  That drought of Pliny (and the over-the-top clamoring for it during the years when we could still get it here) led many Washington breweries to start crafting their own Triple IPAs.

The first two Triple IPAs I recall seeing, which were intended partly as a joke due to the insanity surrounding Pliny releases, were Big Time Brewing Company’s ‘Whiny The Complainer’ and Naked City’s ‘Cry Me A River’.  Super strong and over-the-top hoppy, I was an instant fan of both.  Since that time, more and more Washington breweries started crafting their own Triple IPAs and soon after the Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow was born.  That first year, just 14 Washington breweries participated.

Chainline Brewing’s 1st Annual Welcome To Winter Party Is Next Weekend

Winter doesn’t officially start until December 21st, but with our continued rain and lower temperatures, it almost feels like it’s here already.  Chainline Brewing Company doesn’t mind though.  In fact they’re all set to welcome Winter early this year and are even throwing  a party to mark the occasion.

Coming up next Saturday, November 12th, Chainline Brewing is hosting their first annual Welcome To Winter party.  Themed: “Bitter Is Coming”, this event will feature a raffle, food trucks and seven new beers created just for this event.  That’s right; seven.

The Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow Returns

Oh hops, how do I love thee.  Let me count the ways.  Actually, I’d better not. With so many amazing hoppy beers out there, counting them all would take quite a while.  For the moment, I only want to worry about a particular set of hoppy beers that are back and ready to hit the road.  Returning for its third year and kicking off this week is the Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow.

I first told you about this event last month and now I wanted to update you with the full details.  Set to make its first stop this Thursday the 4th at Brouwer’s Cafe, the Hop Mob Roadshow will also hit several other locations around the Sound, bringing you the biggest, boldest, strongest and, of course, hoppiest beers around.

Originally inspired by the rather ridiculous amount of hype attributed to a particular Triple IPA from a well known Northern California brewery, the Hop Mob set out to prove that Washington Brewers can make triple IPAs just as well (and in my opinion even better) than just about anyone else.

The Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow Returns For A Second Year

We may be well into Winter in the great Northwest (Dang it’s cold out there!), and that currently has me deeply engrossed in lots of dark, rich, roasty, chocolaty, delicious Porters and Stouts – especially the bourbon barrel aged variety, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still enjoy the occasional hoppy and satisfying IPA.  A hophead like me can never go too long without one.  In fact, I think I’ll make my next one a Double IPA just for good measure.  I like ’em strong and quite hoppy.  I’d have a Triple IPA, but they’re a bit more difficult to track down this time of year.  That will change, however, in just a few short months.

Last February I told you about a unique new series of events dubbed the Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow.  It was a celebration of the relatively new and still unofficial style, the Triple IPA.  Featuring 12 different breweries and spanning 5 events around the Sound from Lynnwood down to Tacoma, the Roadshow was a great way to explore this strong and hop-heavy style of craft beer.  Well, the Roadshow is back for 2014 with more breweries, more events and even more Triple IPA goodness.
