Fort George Stout Month 2018 Is Almost Here

One of the best things about the cold, dark days of Winter are all of the dark, delicious Stouts that come along with it.  Sure, you can drink a good Stout anytime, but Fall and especially Winter are when our palates seem to turn more towards the dark side and crave all those deep, rich, coffee/chocolate/roasty and often barrel-aged flavors that a good Stout provides.

February is Stout Month and Fort George Brewery is ready to celebrate with a full month of events and beer releases.  Don’t worry if you can’t make it down to Oregon for some of the Traveling Carnival Of Stouts events.  They’ve planned 5 events for Washington Fort George fans as well.

Magnanimous IPA Returns From Fort George Brewing

img_5508

Enjoying craft beer is all about appreciating the skill of the brew master and treating your taste buds, while having a great time with friends and family.  So, if you’re feeling resentful or holding onto a grudge about something this holiday season, Let it go.  Be like Fort George Brewing Company.  Be Magnanimous.

This Fall/Winter Seasonal Ale is brewed with Grand Fir trimmings from Earth & Sky Farm in Oregon City, which Fort George co-owner Chris Nemlowill has been storing in his basement since May when they were picked.  Magnanimous IPA is a great way for hopheads like me to enjoy the Holidays and Hops at the same time.

Today, Monday May 16th, is day number 5 of Seattle Beer Week #8, which means we’re about halfway through.  Things kicked off last Thursday at Reuben’s Brews with the official tapping of the first keg of the official Seattle Beer Week beer: Daily Pale, followed by the opening night pub crawl.  I had to drop by Reuben’s, of course, for the kickoff and then found my way to Beveridge Place Pub for stop #3 on the crawl.

Since then, the events have been coming pretty much non-stop.  The highlights for me so far have been the Underberg Back In Black Stout Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe, Satanic Metal C.O.W. Night at Toronado and, even though I had to leave a bit early, Firestone Walker & Holy Mountain last night at The Pine Box.

Penumbra Beer Bash: The Seattle Beer And Music Festival

Penumbra

Penumbra: “(Definition-a partial shadow, as in an eclipse, between regions of complete shadow and complete illumination) – AKA the darkness that defines the silver lining.”

We’re fortunate here in the Northwest to have a plethora of craft beer festivals and events; far too many to name them all here.  You can usually find at least one craft beer-related festival or other event going on somewhere around the Sound just about every week/weekend of the year (and often, far more than just one).  We also have a few notable music festivals in town but, so far, nobody has successfully combined both types of events into a single beer and music festival that does justice to both the beer and the  music.  Penumbra is here to change that.
