Cold Snap limited release White Ale from Sam Adams has been around since 2014. Loaded with a plethora of spices, including orange zest, vanilla and other adjuncts, Cold Snap is a light and tasty Winter warmer.

The recipe for Cold Snap has been the same since 2014 – until now that is. Sam Adams has tweaked the recipe for the 2020 release, to make Cold Snap even more refreshing that before.

Enter Reuben’s Brews’ 4th Annual Hop Idol Homebrew Contest

Most homebrewers dream big. I mean, who wouldn’t like to take their homebrewing ‘hobby’ and turn it into a successful, commercial brewery? Like many of you, Reuben’s Brews founder, Adam Robbings, started out as a homebrewer himself before going pro. A few years back, as a tribute to Adam’s homebrewing roots, Reuben’s Brews launched their Hop Idol Homebrew Contest, giving homebrewers from across the nation a chance to see their beer scaled up, brewed on a professional brewing system and put on tap for all to enjoy.

Well, it’s that time once again for all the homebrewers out there. Make those final adjustments to your best recipes and fire up those brew kettles, because the 4th annual Hop Idol Homebrew Competition has arrived.

Portland Cider Co’s Sorta Sweet Wins Two Double Golds

PORTLAND, Ore. (Dec. 19, 2019) –– Portland Cider Co., one of Oregon’s longest operating independent cider producers, recently brought home two double gold medals for its flagship Sorta Sweet cider; the first from Sip Northwest‘s 2019 Best of the Northwest Cider, and the second from the 2019 Cidercraft Awards.

Portland Cider Co.’s Sorta Sweet is a love song to the Oregon craft cider movement and the company’s most award-winning cider. It’s semi-sweet, refreshing and effervescent, and balances the higher levels of natural residual sugars with just the right amount of tartness. Available year-round, Sorta Sweet offers a fresh finish that tastes like biting into a crisp apple. It has won more than a dozen medals in the last seven years, including two double golds and a few silver medals in 2019.

Get Your Tickets Now For Pike Brewing’s Chocofest 2020

The iconic Pike Brewing Company, situated near the waterfront in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market, has been brewing now for more than 30 years. Founders Charles and Rose Ann Finkel are well known and well loved in the local craft beer scene, and with good reason. Their dedication and perseverance helped elevate craft beer from a small ‘hobby’ for enthusiasts to a nationwide and indeed Worldwide powerhouse of, literally, thousands of small, independent breweries most of which, in my opinion, put out beers that put most mass-produced American lagers and Ales to shame.

Pike is also a big supporter of the local restaurant industry as well as local cideries, wineries and distilleries. One way they showcase their support for these ‘sister’ industries is their annual Chocofest, where you can find some of the very best our local producers offer and, of course, delicious Pike Brewing Company beers. Chocofest isn’t until early February of 2020, but tickets are on sale now and this event usually sells out, so don’t delay.

Sierra Nevada Brews Resilience IPA For Camp Fire Relief

The fires this year in California have been devastating – particularly the one known as the Camp Fire.  Entire communities have disappeared and thousands have been displaced.  It is also the deadliest wildfire in California state history, with the death toll reaching at least 81 people – and that number is expected to rise as the number of missing/unaccounted for people is still over 870 people.

Fortunately, I don’t know anyone directly affected by the fire(s) (though I do have relatives in Chico – where it got pretty close!), but I know a few people who have family and/or friends who have lost their homes.  It’s a heartbreaking situation, but Sierra Nevada Brewing Company wants to help.

Feather Weather Returns For Winter From Black Raven

I hope you enjoyed our white Christmas.  If nothing else, it provided us with proof that Winter is indeed here, and Winter means Stout season.  There’s been a virtual flood lately of big, dark, bold and barrel-aged Stouts.  Have you been stocking up your cellar with them like I have?

Even though I love all those rich, heavy barrel-aged Stouts (and Porters), sometimes that 12% – 14% ABV can be a bit daunting to face – especially if you’re trying to down a whole 22 oz bottle by yourself.  So perhaps it’s time for a stout that’s a bit more approachable.  Arriving this Friday, and clocking in at just 6%, Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) is releasing their Feather Weather Mocha Stout.

Firestone Walker Announces Wookus Imperial Black IPA

Back in late 2016, Firestone Walker Brewing Company announced, to the dismay of many craft beer fans, that they were discontinuing their Proprietor’s Reserve series of beers (which included their Opal Dry Hopped Saison, Double Jack IPA and Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA).  Since that decision, however, Firestone has been busy cranking out new beers at a furious pace by way of the Luponic Distortion Series as well as their Leo v Ursus Series.

I’ve really been enjoying the first three releases in the Leo v Ursus Series: Fortem (A worthy successor to Double Jack!), Adversus and Inferos.  Now, Firestone Walker is set to bring back a classic.  Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA has found new life as Wookus, the next beer in the Leo v Ursus Series.
