Breweries To Host Nationwide Pint Night For Camp Fire Relief

I recently told you about Resilience IPA from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and their drive to have as many breweries as possible across the US brew this beer and donate the proceeds to Camp Fire relief.

Sierra Nevada received an amazing response to their call. Over 1400 breweries nationwide brewed Resilience IPA and now, this coming Thursday, December 20th, all of those participating breweries will be hosting a Nationwide ‘Resilience Night’ for Camp Fire relief.

Are you a homebrewer?  Do you think you’ve gotten pretty good at it?  Do you think your beers are good enough to be brewed on a large scale, canned and sold to the craft beer masses here in Seattle?  Then Ruben’s Brews has the contest for you.  Returning for the third straight year, Reuben’s Brews presents: “Hop Idol”.

It’s time to refine your best hoppy recipes and hone your brewing techniques so you can put your best brew(s) forward.  Don’t wait too long to start either, because the cutoff date for entries is February 27, 2019.  It all comes down to you and your brew, because (Best Ryan Seacrest impersonaltion) THIS………. is Hop Idol!

Sierra Nevada Brews Resilience IPA For Camp Fire Relief

The fires this year in California have been devastating – particularly the one known as the Camp Fire.  Entire communities have disappeared and thousands have been displaced.  It is also the deadliest wildfire in California state history, with the death toll reaching at least 81 people – and that number is expected to rise as the number of missing/unaccounted for people is still over 870 people.

Fortunately, I don’t know anyone directly affected by the fire(s) (though I do have relatives in Chico – where it got pretty close!), but I know a few people who have family and/or friends who have lost their homes.  It’s a heartbreaking situation, but Sierra Nevada Brewing Company wants to help.

Feather Weather Returns For Winter From Black Raven

I hope you enjoyed our white Christmas.  If nothing else, it provided us with proof that Winter is indeed here, and Winter means Stout season.  There’s been a virtual flood lately of big, dark, bold and barrel-aged Stouts.  Have you been stocking up your cellar with them like I have?

Even though I love all those rich, heavy barrel-aged Stouts (and Porters), sometimes that 12% – 14% ABV can be a bit daunting to face – especially if you’re trying to down a whole 22 oz bottle by yourself.  So perhaps it’s time for a stout that’s a bit more approachable.  Arriving this Friday, and clocking in at just 6%, Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) is releasing their Feather Weather Mocha Stout.

Firestone Walker Announces Wookus Imperial Black IPA

Back in late 2016, Firestone Walker Brewing Company announced, to the dismay of many craft beer fans, that they were discontinuing their Proprietor’s Reserve series of beers (which included their Opal Dry Hopped Saison, Double Jack IPA and Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA).  Since that decision, however, Firestone has been busy cranking out new beers at a furious pace by way of the Luponic Distortion Series as well as their Leo v Ursus Series.

I’ve really been enjoying the first three releases in the Leo v Ursus Series: Fortem (A worthy successor to Double Jack!), Adversus and Inferos.  Now, Firestone Walker is set to bring back a classic.  Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA has found new life as Wookus, the next beer in the Leo v Ursus Series.

Pike Brewing Introduces Monk’s Uncle In Cans

Pike Brewing Company is more than just a brewery.  They also care deeply about beer heritage and about bringing as many different styles of beers as possible to market.  Long before Pike Brewing existed, owners Charles and Rose Ann Finkel were the founders of Merchant Du Vin back in 1978 and today they are the World’s largest craft beer importer.

Today, Pike is still focused on making different styles of craft beer more accessible to everyone and, to that end, they have announced that their extremely popular, multi award-winning Belgian Tripel, Monk’s Uncle, is now available in 12 oz cans.

Redfeather IPA Arrives This Week From Black Raven Brewing

unnamed-13

I hope you’ve all been having a wonderful Holiday season.  Winter officially arrived yesterday, though it feels like it’s already been here a bit longer.  To keep warm through our chilly Fall, I’ve been enjoying plenty of high octane, barrel aged beers (Lord knows, there have been enough great barrel aged releases around here lately).  I really love all those dark, strong, Winter-time beers but sometimes, even in the colder temperatures out there, my palate (and my liver) could use a break from something so heavy.

That’s where the Session IPA comes in.  Session IPAs are lower in alcohol, but still retain much of the hoppy punch you love from traditional IPAs. They’re crisp and refreshing and one the Northwest’s finest examples of the style, Redfeather Session IPA, returns tomorrow (12/23) from Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor).

Here is some more information about Redfeather Session IPA from Black Raven Brewing Company:

Release date: Friday, December 23rd

The Redfeather SIPA is brewed in the session IPA style. This beer presents the hop bitterness and flavor of a red IPA but in a more refreshing, lower alcohol version.

Additional crystal malts contribute the red hue and malt backbone to layer the hops onto. Hop varieties include Super Galena, Northern Brewer and Citra.

2016 GABF WINNER
Gold Medal – ESB category

ABV: 4.8%

On draft, growler fills and 22oz bottles available to go.

So, while I’m sure most of you will be digging into your cellars this Christmas to impress friends or family with a few extra special bottle selections (or just enjoying them yourself), be sure to stop by Black Raven to grab a growler or two of Redfeather Session IPA, so you and your guests have something a bit lighter and hoppier to enjoy as well.

Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.

Believer Double Red Ale Returns From Ninkasi Brewing

banner-bel-alllogos-countdown

When I first got into craft beer, I was a big fan of Amber or Red ales.  Two of my favorites were Boont Amber from Anderson Valley and Red Tail Ale from Mendocino. Unfortunately, these days, Red Ales are often relegated to the background; pushed out of the way by many in favor of IPAs, Stouts, Porters and (more and more these days) even sours styles.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see people branching out more.  I just wish I’d see people ordering Red ales a bit more often.  I’m a fan of Ninkasi Brewing Company‘s Dawn Of The Red India Red Ale and now, another popular Red Ale is making its return from Ninkasi: Believer Double Red Ale.

Back by popular demand, Believer joins Ninkasi’s Seasonal Release Series available late December through April.  This release of Believer Double Red Ale will also benefit three different non-profit organizations.  A portion of all Believer sales will be donated to Conscious Alliance, Team River Runner, and Women Who Code through our Beer is Love program.  Your votes will help determine how the donations are allocated.

Overhang Bourbon Imperial Porter Returns From Two Beers Brewing

overhang2

If you’re a fan of barrel aged stouts and porters then you know that Fall can be a trying time for your wallet.  Over the past couple of months, I’ve been to several different barrel aged beer releases and, by no means, was I alone at these releases.  Most had a line stretching down the street and around the corner with many people in line buying up to their allowed limit.

Well, I hope you haven’t depleted your holiday season craft beer spending limit yet, because Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) is pleased to announce the return of Overhang Bourbon Imperial Porter this Friday, December 16th at The Woods taproom.
