Boston Beer Company Releases Sam ’76

You know the Boston Beer Company.  Most people (including the brewery themselves) often just refer to them as Samuel Adams (or just Sam Adams), but that isn’t actually the name of the brewing company.  It’s the name of their flagship and most popular beer.

The Boston Beer Company/Sam Adams makes several different styles but the two of their beers I find people are most familiar with are the aforementioned Samuel Adams Boston Lager and their over-the-top creation: Utopias.  Now, Boston Beer Company is ready to add another beer to their extensive lineup.  Introduced at last year’s GABF, Sam ’76 is a sessionable (4.7%) beer with the complex flavor and character of an ale but the light crispness of a lager.  It’s available in cans now and should start showing up on tap in April.

Collaboration beers have become quite popular in the craft beer World.  When some of your favorite breweries team up, it’s always exciting to see what new creations they’ll come up with.  This year’s 3-Way IPA from Fort George Brewery for example (brewed in collaboration with Reuben’s Brews and Great Notion Brewing), is so popular it’s been rather difficult to find this year.

Now Samuel Adams (The Boston Beer Company) is getting in on the collaboration action with their Brewing The Great American Dream Collaboration Pack.  This mixed pack will include five new collaboration beers, brewed Roc Brewing Co. (Rochester, NY), Bosque Brewing(Albuquerque, NM), ChuckAlek Independent Brewers (Ramona, CA), Woods Beer Co. (San Francisco, CA) and Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge, CO), as well as their flagship Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

Boston Beer Company Reformulates Rebel IPA

rebel-ipa-6pack_0736_r01

The Boston Beer Company is known by most as Samuel Adams, which is actually not the name of the brewery.  It’s just one of the many beers brewed by the Boston Beer Company.  Another beer they brew that has become fairly well known is their Rebel IPA. It’s their flagship IPA and has remained the same since it first launched back in 2014.

Even before Rebel IPA was first launched, Boston Beer Company founder and brewer of Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Jim Koch, launched Project Lupulus.  Under this program, Koch was experimenting with hops that were not available when Rebel IPA first launched.  They even cultivated their own proprietary hop (HBC 566), partnering with growers in the Yakima Valley, and that hop is exclusive to the Boston Beer Company.  Now, Rebel IPA is being reborn with HBC 566 and other new and familiar hop varieties.

Sam Adams Nitro Beers Launch Nationwide

SAM_NitroProjectPacks1

There’s just something about a beer served on Nitrogen.  Nitro beers create that silky smooth texture and creamy head often associated with Guinness, and can even alter your perception of a beer, subtly changing the flavor and mouth feel.

Stouts and Porters are the two styles most often associated with Nitrogen beers, but other styles can work well on Nitrogen too.  The Boston Beer Company agrees and has been experimenting with different nitrogen infused beers for the Samuel Adams Nitro Project.  Now, after three years of experimentation, they’re ready to bring those beers to you.

Samuel Adams Releases 2015 Utopias – UPDATED

Sam-Adams-Utopias

Craft beer Pioneer Sam Koch and The Boston Beer Company/Samuel Adams are pleased to announce the release of 2015 Utopias.  I first tasted Utopias back in 2013 at a special tasting of the 10th Anniversary edition at Super Deli Mart in West Seattle.  The richness, complexity and Cognac-like qualities of this unique beer blew me away.  I haven’t tasted any Utopias since, but I’d love to get my hands on a bottle of the 2015 if I can.

This year’s version comes in at an incredible 28% ABV.  A limited number of bottles should start appearing in the Seattle area as soon as next week.
