Lowercase Brewing Prepares For Their 4th Anniversary

 

Are you ready to party?  Lowercase Brewing Company certainly is.  Their taproom on Airport Way South in Georgetown turned one just this past November, but the brewery itself (still in South Park) has been around for nearly four years now.

I won’t re-hash the story of how Lowercase wound up with a brewery in South Park but a taproom in Georgetown here, but if you read my previous article (at the link above), it will explain the situation.  It actually wound up being a good thing for Lowercase because their Georgetown taproom is larger than their old one and in a better location to get more traffic.

In preparation for their upcoming 4th Anniversary celebration on January 20th (4 – 10 pm), Lowercase has brewed up 4 special beers (for 4 years): iRISH Stout, Strata IPA, Barrel-Aged Winter Warmer and Hop Snow Hazy IPA.  There’ll also be live music and BBQ.

Firestone Walker Releases XXI Anniversary Ale

I’ve been a Washingtonian for nearly 20 years now.  I love the Washington craft beer scene and the plethora of wonderful craft breweries in the state, but some of my favorite breweries are still from California. One such brewery is Firestone Walker Brewing Company out of Paso Robles, CA.

Each year since their 10th Anniversary, Firestone Walker has released a special Anniversary Ale. They hold an annual blending session, with both brewers and winemakers in attendance, in order to craft the perfect blend for each year’s Anniversary Ale offering.  Now, Firestone Walker is preparing to release the latest version: XXI Anniversary Ale.

Hoppy The Woodsman Is Back From Schooner Exact Brewing

The parade of barrel-aged goodness continues in South Seattle with Schooner Exact Brewing Company.  Available now, Schooner Exact released the 2017 version of their extremely popular Hoppy The Woodsman Whiskey Barrel Aged Ale just yesterday, November 1st.

In addition to the return of Hoppy The Woodsman, Schooner Exact is also pleased to announce their new Fall food menu (going live today) which, thanks to popular demand, now includes Fish and Chips.  Other new items include Blackened Fish Tacos, Caprese Sandwich, and Pork Sliders.  Also, on tap now in the Schooner Exact taproom, you’ll find their Schwarzbier Dark Lager and their Whiskey Dick Cantwell, Matt Where’s My Fucking Pumpkin Beer.

Pike Entire 2017 Arrives Tomorrow

As I mentioned in a few articles earlier this week (the return of Ground Control from Ninkasi and today’s release of Overhang from Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor)), barrel-aged season is back.  I just loves all those thick, dark, woody, bourbony releases that start flowing this time of year, and now Pike Brewing Company is getting in on the act.

Arriving tomorrow, Friday, November 3rd (which also happens to be International Stout Day), Pike will be releasing their 2017 Pike Entire Barrel Aged Imperial Stout.  Aged for four months on Woodinville Whiskey bourbon barrels, Pike Entire is rich with chocolate and espresso flavors and clocks in at 9.9%

Two Beers Brewing Prepares For Their 10th Anniversary

 

With so many breweries in Seattle, it seems like there’s always an anniversary celebration just around the corner (not that I’m complaining or anything!).  Over the past few months I’ve told you about anniversary celebrations from such local breweries as Lucky Envelope, Hellbent, Stoup and Naked City and there’s still more anniversary celebrations to come before the year is out.

Now Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) is getting ready to celebrate a major milestone.  Coming up on Saturday, November 4th, they’ll be celebrating their 10th Anniversary. Rather than celebrating for just one day, however, Two Beers has nearly an entire week of events lined up, culminating with the Grand Celebration on the 4th.

Brother Barrel Hosts Pucker Up: Washington

Are you a fan of sour ales and sour ciders?  Not everyone is.  I wasn’t always a fan of sours.  Ten years ago, the very idea seemed odd to me.  Why would I want a sour beer, I thought to myself?  Then again, most people don’t consider bitter a flavor they seek out, yet IPA is the most popular style of craft beer around (even before they style became flooded with murky, ‘juicy’ IPAs that taste more like citrus juice).

As with many things, the enjoyment of sour ales can be an acquired taste.  Elliott Bay Brewing‘s Brother Barrel location understand this and would like to give you the opportunity to taste a few of their own sours, along with sour ales and ciders from other local local producers.  They’ll all be coming together at Brother Barrel one week from today for their first ever special event: Pucker Up: Washington.

Craft Beer Monger’s Top Picks For Seattle Beer Week #9

Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the past year has flown by so quickly.  Seattle Beer Week #8 almost feels like it was just a few weeks ago.  Yet here we are, with Seattle Beer Week #9 kicking off in just two days.  Have you had an opportunity to look over the ever-growing list of events on the official Seattle Beer Week website?  With so many events to choose from, many of which happen on the same day or even at the same time, you may have to make some difficult choices regarding which events to attend.  Here are my top picks for Seattle Beer Week #9.

Things get under way with the Official Seattle Beer Week Kickoff this Thursday, May 4th.  There are  5 stops on the Seattle Beer Week (SBW) kickoff tour.  Things start off at 4:30 pm at the new Flatstick Pub location in Pioneer Square.  The other stops on this year’s kickoff tour include: Beveridge Place Pub (6:30 pm and Cask-O-Rama will be going on), Brouwer’s Cafe (7:45 pm), Naked City Brewery & Taphouse (9:00 pm), with the evening closing out at The Pine Box (10:30 pm).

La Mort Bourbon Returns From Black Raven Brewing

Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) makes lots of excellent beers.  Their popular Kitty Kat Blues was recently added to their year-round lineup and what is probably their most overall popular beer, Wisdom Seeker, just made it’s annual return as well.  Now, Black Raven is preparing to bring back one of my absolute favorites.  Arriving this Friday, March 24th is their popular and award-winning La Mort Bourbon.

Part of Black Raven’s Corbeaux Series and crafted by aging their equally popular La Petite Mort in Kentucky bourbon barrels, La Mort Bourbon is a complex beer that satisfies fans of Belgian Ales and bourbon-barrel aged beers alike.  I’m a big fan of both, which helps explain why this is one of my favorite offerings from Black Raven.

Bravo Is Coming In 12 oz Bottles From Firestone Walker

Firestone Walker Brewing Company has been quite busy lately.  They introduced their new Luponic Distortion series of IPAs. They discontinued their Proprietor’s Reserve Series of beers (including: Opal, Double Jack and Wookey Jack), and they recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary including, of course, the release of their XX Anniversary Ale.

Now, Firestone Walker is ready for another first.  All of Firestone Walker’s Vintage Reserve barrel-aged beers will be moving from from 22-ounce bombers to individually boxed 12-ounce bottles. The first beer up for the 12-ounce treatment is Bravo Imperial Brown Ale, which is being bottled for the first time in 12 years.

Lagunitas Brewing Has Arrived In Seattle

Last night, I was fortunate to attend a sneak peek preview party for media and industry friends at Lagunitas Brewing Company‘s newest location in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.  As you’ve probably heard, they took over the space formerly occupied by Hilliard’s Brewing, which was purchased last year by Odin Brewing.  Lagunitas treated us to food, live music, acrobatic and sideshow performers mingling among the crowd and, of course, great craft beer from one of my favorite California craft breweries.

Lagunitas has made some small but significant changes to the space, including a new, spacious island bar in the middle of the taproom, large, sturdy beer hall style tables with bench seating and brand new, restaurant-quality bathrooms.  They want to open to the public as soon as possible and, from what I saw last night, they’re just about ready.  You should be enjoying your favorite Lagunitas beers there before the end of this month.
