Get Your Tickets Now for Women In Beer From Pike Brewing

Last month was women’s history month. I hope you took the time to celebrate some of the amazing women in our nation’s history – and those around you every day. Well, that special month may be over but that’s no reason to stop celebrating women.

Coming up in May, during Seattle Beer Week #10, Pike Brewing Company is once again hosting their Women In Beer event to celebrate women who are a part of the Northwest craft beer industry, along with women owned and run restaurants, cideries, wineries, confectioners and more.

Nearing The Halfway Point Of Seattle Beer Week #8 – UPDATED

20160513_092720

Today, Monday May 16th, is day number 5 of Seattle Beer Week #8, which means we’re about halfway through.  Things kicked off last Thursday at Reuben’s Brews with the official tapping of the first keg of the official Seattle Beer Week beer: Daily Pale, followed by the opening night pub crawl.  I had to drop by Reuben’s, of course, for the kickoff and then found my way to Beveridge Place Pub for stop #3 on the crawl.

Since then, the events have been coming pretty much non-stop.  The highlights for me so far have been the Underberg Back In Black Stout Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe, Satanic Metal C.O.W. Night at Toronado and, even though I had to leave a bit early, Firestone Walker & Holy Mountain last night at The Pine Box.

Great Reasons To Check Out Seattle’s South End Breweries

Counterbalance Brewing Company

Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood gets a lot of attention for the number of breweries in such a small area, and rightly so.  Ballard has, to many, become known as Seattle’s ‘Brewery District’.  The South End however, if you include SoDo, Georgetown and South Park, actually rivals Ballard in the number of available breweries to visit.  There’s even more if you include the Columbia City area of Rainier Avenue South.

SoDo has Two Beers Brewing (CBM Sponsor), Schooner Exact Brewing, Ghostfish Brewing (Gluten Free), Epic Ales (recently closed for transition to ‘Molusk‘) and Seapine Brewing. Georgetown has Machine House Brewing, Counterbalance Brewing and, of course, Georgetown Brewing.  Cross the first street bridge into South Park and you’ll find Burdick Brewery, Lowercase Brewing and Tin Dog Brewing.  Head the other direction towards the Rainier Valley and you’ll find Spinnaker Bay Brewing and Flying Lion Brewing.

Girls Pint Out Hosts A Whiskey And Beer Pairing Event Next Wednesday

For a long time, the craft beer World was dominated by men.  That may still seem like the case on the surface, but more and more women are discovering their love of craft beer and have become an important demographic.  Unfortunately, the marketing we see aimed at women, even for craft beer, is often somewhat demeaning or degrading, perhaps suggesting that women will only like the lighter, sweeter, more easy-drinking craft beers offerings out there.

I can tell you from my own personal experience, including with my own wife (whose favorite styles are Belgian Ales, Scotch Ales and Stouts) that is definitely not the case.  Girls Pint Out, a national craft beer organization for women, understands this.  Their mission is to build a community of women who love craft beer and who are an active, contributing part of the greater craft beer community.  They hold regular ‘Pint Night’ events at various locations and also host other special events.
