The 9th Annual Belgian Fest Happens This Month

As I get a bit older (Nooo!), I’m not as much of a fan of Winter as I used to be, but I am indeed a fan of several of the craft beer festivals that come around in the Winter months.  Just last month was the Big Wood Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe and, of course, the IPA Cask-O-Rama at Beveridge Place Pub.  Also coming up next month is the 16th Annual Hard Liver Barleywine Festival at Brouwer’s and the Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow – coming to multiple locations.  I’ll provide more info on those events as they draw closer.

Before indulging in all those barleywines and triple IPAs, however, how about a quick trip to Belgium?  I’d love to take a real trip to Belgium but, for now, I’ll settle for attending the 9th Annual Belgian Fest, which is coming to Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion on Saturday, January 27th.  Presented by the Washington Beer Commission.

The South Seattle Brewery Coalition Wants You To “Be Disloyal”

Since I live in the South end, I’ve been a bit of an advocate for Seattle’s many South end breweries.  Back in 2015 I even published an article encouraging craft beer lovers to check out all of the breweries in SoDo, Georgetown, South Park and Columbia City. As I pointed out in that article, the South end rivals Ballard for the sheer number of breweries you can visit, albeit spread out a bit more than the concentration in Ballard.

In order to continue encouraging craft beer fans to visit Seattle’s South end breweries, they have come together to form the South Seattle Brewery Coalition (SSBC), which encourages you to “be disloyal” and drink someone else’s beer.  According to the SSBC: “We love challenging one another to make better beer, to provide more excellent service, and to better educate the wonderful people who have chosen to support our businesses.”

Belgian Fest 2017 Happens Next Month

Each year, the Washington Beer Commission puts on several different festivals to celebrate the diversity and excellence of Washington craft beer.  These festivals are a great way to discover new Washington breweries and to explore different craft styles that you may not be as familiar with.

It may still be a full month away, but tickets are already on sale for one of my favorite Washington Beer Commission hosted festivals: Belgian Fest 2017.  Set for 2 sessions on Saturday, January 28th, Belgian Fest 2017 will feature well over 100 different Belgian style beers from over 40 different Washington State breweries.  Featured beer styles include Tripels, Dubbels, Saisons, Wits, Abbeys and Lambics. In keeping with this unique style, all of the beers are brewed with Belgian yeast.

The Washington Brewer’s Festival Happens This Weekend

It’s that ‘Dads and Grads’ time of year.  I hope you’ve found the perfect Father’s Day or graduation gift for that special beer lover in your life.  If not then perhaps they’d enjoy a visit to the Washington Brewer’s Festival.  Hosted by the Washington Beer Commission and presented this year by Total Wine & More, the Washington Brewer’s Festival kicks off this Friday, June 17th and runs through Sunday the 19th at Marymoor Park in Redmond.

This all-ages festival is a celebration of craft brewing in Washington State and features over 110 Washington State breweries pouring over 500 different craft beers for you to enjoy.  Whether you attend just one day or all three, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.  Feeling extra adventurous?  Starting this year, there’s a Washington Beer 5K on Sunday the 19th.  There’s also a full lineup of food trucks, live music, a brewer’s keg toss, a kid’s play area (Saturday & Sunday only), and even a Rootbeer garden.

Lots Of Great Events To Keep You Busy Till Spring Arrives (UPDATED)

It’s really pouring out there, but I’m not talking about the weather.  It’s raining craft beer events; enough to keep your liver plenty busy between now and the arrival of Spring.  Get you calendar out, because I’m going to tell you about 8 local craft beer festivals and other events coming your way between now and March 20; the first day of Spring, 2016.

Most of these upcoming events are free to attend.  The amount you’ll spend only depends on how many beers and how much food you decide to purchase.  The other two are ticketed events, where you’ll want to get your ticket(s) in advance to make sure you can attend.

(Please note – this is not a comprehensive list of ALL local events happening between now and March 20th.  I’m merely highlighting some of the events I think my readers would be most interested in.)
