Lucky Envelope Brewing Prepares To Celebrate Chinese New Year

Living in the South end and working the early hours I do, I don’t get to Ballard as often as I’d like.  Thankfully, I can usually find at least some beers from a few of my favorite Ballard area breweries either on tap at some good, local craft beer bars or in bottles or cans.

One of the breweries I try to visit when I do manage to get to Ballard is Lucky Envelope Brewing Company.  I enjoy their IPAs and a few of their more unusual offerings.  Now, Lucky Envelope is preparing to release five specialty beers in celebration of Chinese New Year – Year of the Earth Dog.   Continue reading

Tin Dog Brewing Prepares For Their 4th Anniversary

Have you ever been down to Tin Dog Brewing Company in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood?  Sure, they’re a bit out of the way if you don’t live in the South end, but they’ve been quietly operating out of their space on Cloverdale St. for nearly 4 years now.

Tin Dog recently released their third French Oak Wine Barrel Aged Wild Blend Bottle: Mandala Blended Wild Ale, which has been dry-hopped with Mosaic giving it tropical notes.  You can find it at the brewery and at several local craft bottle shops, including Chuck’s Hop Shop locations and Full Throttle Bottles in Georgetown.  Now, they’re preparing to celebrate their 4th Anniversary.

Lowercase Brewing’s Georgetown Taproom Is Turning One

Lowercase Brewing Company first opened their doors back in January of 2014.  Of course that was back when their taproom was in South Park, where they shared a building with Burdick Brewery.  By early 2016, however, both breweries had a problem. The City of Seattle decided that the building that housed their taprooms was insufficient as it was and required both breweries to make some major and expensive upgrades to the building if they wanted to keep their taprooms there.

Unfortunately this demand was too costly for either brewery, so both taprooms were closed.  The breweries themselves could still operate out of their building in South Park, but had to find new taproom locations.  Lowercase wasted no time and found a new taproom location on Airport Way South in Georgetown (Burdick has also since found a new taproom space on 14th Avenue South in South Park).  After a few construction and licensing delays, Lowercase Brewing’s new Georgetown taproom opened their doors in November of 2016 and now they’re ready to celebrate the taproom’s first anniversary.  In addition, Lowercase has announced the launch of a new pop-up coffee shop, Side Hustle Coffee & Doughnuts, which will be operating Thursday through Sundays out of the taproom.   Continue reading

Stoup Brewing Prepares For Their 4th Anniversary

There are a number of breweries in Seattle that have been around and been popular for several years.  As a result, it’s sometimes easy to forget that some the most popular breweries in Seattle today are actually quite young.  One such youngster among us is Stoup Brewing Company in Ballard.

Not quite 4 years old now, Stoup has amassed a loyal following thanks to beers like their extremely popular Citra IPA and their award winning Robust Porter and Russian Imperial Stout.  Not content with just a single celebration this year, Stoup has decided to stretch out their 4th Anniversary celebration in to a week full of events.

Join Counterbalance Brewing For A Fall Equinox Celebration

Counterbalance Belgian Golden Strong Ale

People are sometimes confused by the location of Counterbalance Brewing Company.  Based on the name most locals assume, understandably, that they would be in or near the Queen Anne neighborhood.  They are not.  Counterbalance is, in the West end of Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood.  They went with the Counterbalance name because that’s where founders Frank Lawrence and Jeff Howell grew up.

Now that you know where they are, why not come for a visit this weekend and help them welcome the return of Fall?  Coming up this Sunday the 24th, Counterbalance Brewing will host a release party for their Oktoberfestbier and Fresh Hop Ale.  Come join them for these two new releases while watching the Seattle Seahawks beat the Tennessee Titans.

Are You Ready To Take Your LongShot With Samuel Adams?

The vast majority of brewers out there creating some of your favorite libations at countless craft breweries across the nation were, at one time, homebrewers.  They started out small-scale, found their passion and decided to take it to the next level.  Have you been homebrewing for a while?  Do you get lots of compliments on your beers and feel like you might want to make a career out of brewing?  Then you might want to seriously consider entering the Samuel Adams LongShot American Homebrew Contest.

The winner will gain invaluable experience in a one-week ‘Brewership’ at the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery.  Also, the winner and two runners up will attend the next Great American Beer Festival and will get a valuable scholarship for an online course at The Siebel Institute of Technology.  This is an amazing opportunity for the right person to really take their passion for brewing and take a shot at making it their life’s work.

Craft Beer Monger’s Top Picks For Seattle Beer Week #9

Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the past year has flown by so quickly.  Seattle Beer Week #8 almost feels like it was just a few weeks ago.  Yet here we are, with Seattle Beer Week #9 kicking off in just two days.  Have you had an opportunity to look over the ever-growing list of events on the official Seattle Beer Week website?  With so many events to choose from, many of which happen on the same day or even at the same time, you may have to make some difficult choices regarding which events to attend.  Here are my top picks for Seattle Beer Week #9.

Things get under way with the Official Seattle Beer Week Kickoff this Thursday, May 4th.  There are  5 stops on the Seattle Beer Week (SBW) kickoff tour.  Things start off at 4:30 pm at the new Flatstick Pub location in Pioneer Square.  The other stops on this year’s kickoff tour include: Beveridge Place Pub (6:30 pm and Cask-O-Rama will be going on), Brouwer’s Cafe (7:45 pm), Naked City Brewery & Taphouse (9:00 pm), with the evening closing out at The Pine Box (10:30 pm).

Hellbent Brewing Presents Roquefort One A Cheese Wars Story

Brace yourself.  This article gets pretty cheesy.  A long time ago, while eating at a food truck not so far away… Hellbent Brewing Company thought, “What the Hell. Let’s pit two food trucks against each other, give it all a Star Wars Rogue One kind of theme and let’s make it a benefit for Seattle Children’s Hospital.”

It is a period of cheesy war. Rebel food trucks striking from hidden kitchens are seeking victory against the evil lactic empire and the stakes are high.  They’ll need help from the Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion (who will be in attendance wearing costumes from the actual movies) if they are to be victorious.  Your little Wookiees are welcome at this event too, as there will even be a Star Wars themed dog costume contest before the Roquefort-themed food truck competition kicks off.

Back in November of last year, I told you about Reuben’s Brews‘ Hop Idol homebrew contest.  As a call back to the homebrewing roots of founder Adam Robbings, Reuben’s Brews held this homebrew competition as a means to help inspire other homebrewers to chase their own brewery dreams.

Entrants could submit up to 5 entries each and all entries were due by January 17th. The judging took place the week of January 21st and now Reuben’s Brews is ready to announce the winner who will get to brew their beer with Reuben’s and see it distributed throughout Western Washington.  The winning beer will also be entered into the Washington Beer Awards Pro-Am competition as well as the Great American Beer Festival.
