Pike Brewing Introduces Monk’s Uncle In Cans

Pike Brewing Company is more than just a brewery.  They also care deeply about beer heritage and about bringing as many different styles of beers as possible to market.  Long before Pike Brewing existed, owners Charles and Rose Ann Finkel were the founders of Merchant Du Vin back in 1978 and today they are the World’s largest craft beer importer.

Today, Pike is still focused on making different styles of craft beer more accessible to everyone and, to that end, they have announced that their extremely popular, multi award-winning Belgian Tripel, Monk’s Uncle, is now available in 12 oz cans.

New Beers From Belltown Brewing

New breweries open at such a rapid pace in Washington state, that I still haven’t had a chance to visit them all.  Even within Seattle city limits, there are still a couple of breweries I have yet to check out first hand.  One of those breweries is Belltown Brewing Company between 2nd and 3rd in Belltown, of course.

Not just a brewery, Belltown Brewing also offers a full bar with a wide range of cocktails and $5 Happy Hour food options, as well as a full food menu from Chef, Garrett Brown, featuring pizza, burgers, sandwiches and more – including a brunch special from noon to 4 on weekends. They even offer private dining options for groups (how ’bout a whole roast pig or lamb?) and you can always make reservations through Open Table.

Pike Entire 2017 Arrives Tomorrow

As I mentioned in a few articles earlier this week (the return of Ground Control from Ninkasi and today’s release of Overhang from Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor)), barrel-aged season is back.  I just loves all those thick, dark, woody, bourbony releases that start flowing this time of year, and now Pike Brewing Company is getting in on the act.

Arriving tomorrow, Friday, November 3rd (which also happens to be International Stout Day), Pike will be releasing their 2017 Pike Entire Barrel Aged Imperial Stout.  Aged for four months on Woodinville Whiskey bourbon barrels, Pike Entire is rich with chocolate and espresso flavors and clocks in at 9.9%

Louis Raison French Cidre Arrives In The US

Even though I’m a big fan of craft beers, I do enjoy the occasional craft cider as well.  I sometimes head to one of my local watering holes fully intending to sample some ciders, but then I look at the tap list and I’m like, “Oh look! Three new craft beers I haven’t tried yet!”  As a result, I’m far less experienced and knowledgeable about craft ciders than I am craft beers.

Despite this inherent bias I have towards beer over cider, however, I definitely still appreciate a well made craft cider and usually do manage to try a few when I see something new and interesting.  So I’m a intrigued by the arrival of Louis Raison French Cidre, France’s #1 selling cider, which is set to make their U.S. debut this week.  There are five events happening around Seattle between August 15th and August 26th, where you’ll be able to sample their ciders and see what you think.

Tankard & Tun Opens Today

Last night my wife and I, along with several other members of the local media, were fortunate to attend a special preview night at Seattle’s newest craft beer and gourmet food spot: Tankard & Tun.  Created by Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, the same people who brought you Seattle’s iconic Pike Brewing Company, this Oyster bar and restaurant is a bit more upscale and, fittingly, is right upstairs from The Pike.

I first told you about Tankard & Tun back in April, when it was first announced and the Finkels were deep into construction and planning.  It’s a beautiful, spread out space with a moderately sized bar area (the only section that is 21 and over only) a fermentation deck and few separate seating areas, including a private event mezzanine that’s upstairs but somehow still doesn’t make you feel removed from the market.

Seafair Summer Ale Is Coming From Pike Brewing

 

Summer is almost here.  We had a bit of a tease over Memorial Day weekend (one of the hottest on record in the Puget Sound), but now we’re back to ‘normal’.  Oh joy.  We might have to wait just a bit longer before Summer truly arrives in Seattle, but at least we can start to enjoy all of the Summer Seasonals that make their return about this time each year.

I’ve already told you about the seasonal return of Lima Loca and Day Hike Summer Ale from Two Beers Brewing (CBM Sponsor), as well as the return of Hochzeit Pilsner and Beak Tweaker from Black Raven Brewing (CBM Sponsor).  Now, Pike Brewing Company is preparing to get in on the action with the upcoming release of their new Summer Seasonal: Seafair Summer Ale.

Pike Brewing Announces Tankard & Tun

Pike Brewing Company has been a fixture of the Seattle craft beer scene since way back in 1989.  Founders Charles and Rose Ann Finkel have also been instrumental in helping expand the craft beer scene across Seattle and indeed across the nation.  Their tireless work to help promote craft beer as well as all the wonderful craft beer and food parings that are possible out there has been an inspiration to countless brewers and chefs.

Now, Charles and Rose Ann are preparing for Pike’s biggest expansion in over 21 years.  Pike Brewing Company is pleased to announce Tankard & Tun.  Coming this Summer, Tankard & Tun is a new restaurant, oyster bar and brew deck that will also provide Pike with an expanded brew cellar.

Hive Five Returns In Cans Year Round From Pike Brewing

Last year, I told you about a new Spring Seasonal from Pike Brewing Company: Hive Five – a tasty collaboration between Pike Brewing Company and Salish Lodge & Spa. Salish has 120,000 honey bees that live in their apiaries, which produce 600 pounds of superb and local honey every year. Pike’s brewers use this honey to brew Pike Hive Five.

After last year’s release, Hive Five was so popular that Pike has decided to bring it back year-round.  Starting now, you’ll be able to pick up Hive Five year-round in cans at Pike Brewing Company and your local craft beer retailer.

A Look Back At The Waterways Cruises/Pike Brewing Dinner Cruise

Last Friday, December 2nd, my wife and I attended a beer tasting dinner cruise courtesy of Waterways Cruises And Events, featuring beers from Pike Brewing Company.  This is the cruise I told you about just last month, which took us around Lake Union and Lake Washington as we enjoyed 5 different Pike Brewing Company beers and enjoyed a delicious, 4-course dinner.

Apart from a few somewhat loud and annoying shipmates at the next table and a small technical difficulty involving the last beer of the evening, we had a great meal and a wonderful time.  As a special bonus that we weren’t expecting, Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, founders of Pike Brewing Company, were in attendance on the cruise (as well Pike’s Jon Gores).  Charles took the time to visit each and every table, and spoke to us all at length about his passion for beer, Pike Brewing Company and the beers we would be enjoying during the cruise.

Pike No. 4 Session IPA Is Here For The Summer

Most craft beer drinkers I know enjoy a good IPA or double IPA, and lord knows we have an abundance of great IPAs to choose from, especially here in the Northwest.  Trying to find a brewery or craft beer bar around here without an IPA on tap would be an exercise in futility.

Now, with those long Summer evenings upon us, it feels like we have a few more hours in the day to enjoy all those IPAs.  The problem is, too many strong single or double IPAs and you’ll go down long before the Sun does.  The solution, of course, is the Session IPA.  Session IPAs are designed to be hoppy on the palate but are lower in alcohol, allowing you to enjoy a few more without feeling like it’s time for bed.

Pike Brewing Company understand this so, back for the Summer is their Seasonal release: Pike No. 4 Session IPA.  This light and refreshing IPA comes in at just 4.2% ABV, meaning you can throw back a few more while enjoying the game or tossing some meat on the grill, and still be the life of the party.
