Fresh Hops & Fine Cuisine At Urbane

There are several great restaurants in Seattle.  Since my primary focus here at CraftBeerMonger.com is on craft beer though (and to a lesser degree craft cider and other craft alcoholic beverages), I haven’t visited as many of Seattle’s fine dining establishments as I’d like.  Also, due to my somewhat unusual work schedule, I don’t get to downtown Seattle for a good meal very often.

That’s why I was pleased to receive an invitation recently from Urbane to experience, on them, their Fresh Hop dinner, featuring Fresh Hop beers from Georgetown Brewing Company.  Urbane is a farm-to-table restaurant who prides themselves on sustainability and using locally-sourced ingredients.  In fact, the vast majority of Urbane’s ingredients come from within a 200-mile radius of the restaurant located at 8th Ave and Olive Way in the Hyatt at Olive 8 building downtown.

Celebrate Oktoberfest At Queen Anne Beerhall

Harvest season is upon us.  For those of us here in the Northwest, that means lots and lots of Fresh Hop Ales – which makes me quite happy.  However, the abundance of wonderful Fresh Hop beers we get this time of year can sometimes obscure the start of another great annual beer tradition: Oktoberfest.

I’m a serious hop-head, but when Fall arrives, my palate sometimes needs an occasional break from the hops and starts craving something with more of those rich, toasty and bready malt flavors.  I’m referring, of course, to the traditional, German style Märzen/Oktoberfest.

Hop House Hosts The 2nd Annual Eastside Brewer’s Showcase

Last year, I told you about a new palace in Redmond called Growler USA. They were the newest location for the company, which has locations in over 19 states including Hawaii and Washington State (Vancouver).  Less than a year after opening however, Greg and Ann Humes – who ran the Redmond location for Growler USA – decided they’d rather be independent. So they broke ties with Growler USA and re-branded themselves as Hop House.

Freed from their corporate shackles, so to speak, Greg and Ann were free to curate their local tap selections as they saw fit, bring in more imports and actually reduce their total number of taps from 105 down to 75, in order to make more room for local liquors as well. Now, with Seattle Beer Week 10 (SBW10) about to kick off, Hop House has a few events they’d like to share, to bring a bit of SBW10 to the East side.

Craft Beer Monger’s Picks For Seattle Beer Week 10

Ten years ago.  That’s when it all began.  That’s when Seattle area craft beer lovers got to experience the first ever Seattle Beer Week and the first ever official Seattle Beer Week beer (a double IPA from Pike Brewing Company).  Back then, many of our favorite local craft breweries and craft beer bars didn’t even exist yet.  Whereas today, it seems, we have a craft brewery or craft beer bar around almost every corner.

More craft breweries and more craft beer bars means even more Seattle Beer Week events.  Are you ready?  Surviving the week (actually 11 days) will take careful planning. Cheese Wars Returns To Hellbent Brewing For Seattle Beer Week 10

 

Cheese is addictive. That’s not just an opinion.  There have even been studies done that show that cheese may even be as addictive as heroin. Well, despite that conclusion, I’m not ashamed to say that I’m hooked.  I’m a cheese addict, and I know many others who are as well.

Hellbent Brewing Company has picked up on this. Last year during Seattle Beer Week #9, they hosted an event called Roquefort One: A Cheese Wars Story, where they pitted two local food trucks against each other in an ultimate cheesy, beer-fueled competition to raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Roquefort One was such a success, that Hellbent is bringing the event back next month for Seattle Beer Week 10.  This year it’s The Peach & the Pig vs. Wicked Good Grinders in Cheese Wars: The Last Cheddai.  The Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion will also be back this year in full costume to make this an event to remember.  Don’t worry though, no Bothans died to bring you this information.

Doughnuts And Beer Returns To Lowercase Brewing

Craft beer and food pairings are everywhere these days, as they should be.  I’m glad we’re finally starting to reach the point where pairing great craft beers with great food is nearly as ubiquitous (at least here in the Northwest) as pairing wine with food.  In fact, I think that the range and diversity of craft beer styles offers even more exciting food pairing options than wine.

Beer and food parings are serious business.  In fact, next month during Seattle Beer Week, you’re sure to find some pretty amazing craft beer pairing dinners/events.  Not all pairings have to be so serious though. Perhaps you’ve read one of the recent articles about pairing craft beers with Girl Scout cookies?  It’s in that vein that Lowercase Brewing Company, along with their sister company Side Hustle Coffee & Doughnuts, are pleased to announce the return of their Doughnuts and Beer pairing event this Wednesday, April 18th from 6-9 pm.

Seattle Mariners 2018 Food & Drink Preview

When you head to Safeco Field this year to watch the Seattle Mariners I sure hope you come hungry and thirsty, because the Mariners, Ethan Stowell Restaurants, Centerplate and several local restaurants and breweries have teamed up to make your dining experience for the 2018 season something to remember.

At yesterday’s preview event, I had the opportunity to sample many of the new food and drink offerings you’ll find waiting for you at the ball park this season. You’ll have to come try them all for yourself, perhaps at the home opener next Thursday, March 29th as you cheer on the Mariners against the Cleveland Indians.

Din Tai Fung And Jack’s BBQ Join The Lineup At Safeco Field

Safeco Field already has a great reputation for providing some of the very best food and drink available at a major league stadium.  Every year since 2014 I’ve been telling you about all the amazing gastronomic delights and wonderful, local craft beers you can enjoy while watching the Seattle Mariners play.

Bruery Terreux Releases Saison Ardennes

While it’s true that IPAs tend to dominate the craft beer World, I’ve also seen quite a bit of support for many other craft styles, including many Belgian styles. This is evident in the popularity of breweries like Holy Mountain, Engine House No. 9, De Garde and many, many more.

Another popular brewery that excels at producing Beigian style Ales is Bruery Terreux – a brand from The Bruery in Orange County, California that exclusively focuses on and explores the sour and wild side of beer.
