Melvin Brewing Opens In Bellingham

Melvin Brewing Company out of Alpine and Jackson, Wyoming brews some pretty tasty beers.  Since they began distribution in the Seattle area in early 2016, I’ve come to really appreciate several of their offerings.  The two of their beers people around here are probably the most familiar with include their wildly popular 2×4 Imperial IPA and, of course, last year’s 3-Way IPA (brewed in conjunction with Fort George Brewing Company and Barley Brown’s).

First launched in 2009, Melvin took off quickly and gained high praise from the brewing industry, including a 2012 Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival for their 2×4 Imperial IPA (among other awards).  Now, they’ve launched a 3rd location, and their first full-scale brewpub, right here in Washington State.  Opened in Bellingham on June 3rd, Melvin’s brewpub offers 20 taps (including one rotating guest tap) and a full menu.

Discover The New Growler USA In Redmond

What happens when you take the basic concept of a growler refill station and decide to take it National?  Well, what happens is, you get something like Growler USA.  Founded in 2013 by Dan White (CEO), Dave Shaw (President), and Vern Whittaker (Retired CFO), Growler USA now has 10 locations across the U.S. and are slated to open 50 more throughout 2017-2018.

Each location boasts up to 100 taps of beer (including microbrewed craft beers), hard cider, draft wine & kombucha, plus an extensive food menu. Their tap list varies by location, of course, in order to offer locally-sourced options for their patrons, and their “True to the Brew” system ensures that each brewer’s vision for their product is honored.  Things are kept tightly controlled all the way from keg delivery and storage (using ‘gentle’ keg handling systems to avoid sloshing), to a meticulously maintained tap system and the proper glassware for each pour. Yesterday afternoon I took a trek out to their Redmond location, courtesy $30 in credit from Growler USA, to see what they had to offer first hand.

Pike Brewing Announces Tankard & Tun

Pike Brewing Company has been a fixture of the Seattle craft beer scene since way back in 1989.  Founders Charles and Rose Ann Finkel have also been instrumental in helping expand the craft beer scene across Seattle and indeed across the nation.  Their tireless work to help promote craft beer as well as all the wonderful craft beer and food parings that are possible out there has been an inspiration to countless brewers and chefs.

Now, Charles and Rose Ann are preparing for Pike’s biggest expansion in over 21 years.  Pike Brewing Company is pleased to announce Tankard & Tun.  Coming this Summer, Tankard & Tun is a new restaurant, oyster bar and brew deck that will also provide Pike with an expanded brew cellar.

Naked City Camano Island Opens This Weekend

Back in January, I shared with you the exciting news that Naked City Brewery & Taphouse announced they would be opening a second location out on Camano Island.  Now, just three short months after that announcement, they’re ready to go.

After a soft opening that will happen later this week for family and friends (invite only), they will be ready to open their doors to the public on Saturday, April 22nd at 11 am.

Safeco Field Menu Updates For The 2017 Mariners Season

Spring has finally arrived in the Northwest and that means, of course, the return of baseball.  For the past few years, I’ve kept you up to date on what delicious craft beers and gourmet food choices you can expect to find each Seattle Mariners season at Safeco Field.

Well, it’s that time again and I’ve been invited back to check out some new offerings for this year’s menu. Ethan Stowell has, once again, partnered with Centerplate and the Seattle Mariners to bring you some amazing creations including: Seattle ‘Wings’ (Taylor Shellfish Farms fried oysters with Frank’s RedHot sauce), authentic Oaxacan chapulines (toasted grasshoppers with chile-lime salt seasoning), and frozen custard cookie sandwiches.

Naked City Opening A 2nd Location On Camano Island

I’ve always been a big fan of Naked City Brewery & Taphouse.  They make some of my favorite locally-brewed beers including their The Big Lebrewski Imperial Stout and Cry Me A River Triple IPA.  Unfortunately, I don’t get there as often as I’d like but every time I’m in the Greenwood area, I’ll stop by.  One taste of their beers is all it takes to let you know Owner and Brewmaster Don Webb really loves his work.

Now, after going strong for over 8 years (they celebrated their 8th Anniversary last October), Naked City is ready to expand.  So, coming as soon as this Spring, Naked City is pleased to announced they will be opening their 2nd location out on Camano Island.

Lagunitas Brewing Has Arrived In Seattle

Last night, I was fortunate to attend a sneak peek preview party for media and industry friends at Lagunitas Brewing Company‘s newest location in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.  As you’ve probably heard, they took over the space formerly occupied by Hilliard’s Brewing, which was purchased last year by Odin Brewing.  Lagunitas treated us to food, live music, acrobatic and sideshow performers mingling among the crowd and, of course, great craft beer from one of my favorite California craft breweries.

Lagunitas has made some small but significant changes to the space, including a new, spacious island bar in the middle of the taproom, large, sturdy beer hall style tables with bench seating and brand new, restaurant-quality bathrooms.  They want to open to the public as soon as possible and, from what I saw last night, they’re just about ready.  You should be enjoying your favorite Lagunitas beers there before the end of this month.

Lowercase Brewing’s Georgetown Taproom Opens Next Week

Last September, Lowercase Brewing Company was one of many breweries I mentioned in a Craft Beer Monger feature article about Great Reasons To Check Out Seattle’s South End Breweries.  They’ve been operating out of a space in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood since January 2014, but in early 2016 Lowercase found out they would have to close their taproom in South Park, so they started looking for a new location, and they found one in Georgetown.

Since then, they’ve been working hard to get the new Georgetown taproom ready for business.  Some initial permitting delays pushed back their original opening date but now they’re ready for their big reveal.  Lowercase Brewing is pleased to announced that the grand opening for their new taproom, on Airport Way in Georgetown, will be next Friday, November 11th starting at 4 pm.

Teku Tavern Set To Open On October 18th – UPDATED

We’re blessed here in the Northwest to live in an area where there are so many great breweries.  Having easy access to so many great beers is great for craft beer fans like us, but it’s also part of what allows Seattle to have some of the best tap and bottle shops around.  Some of the most popular and well known ones include The Beer Junction, Bottleworks and Chuck’s Hop Shop.

Now, joining those establishments is Seattle’s newest tap and bottle shop: Teku Tavern.  Named for the Teku style of glassware that has been called the “World’s best beer glass”, Teku Tavern is looking to, as they put it, elevate the beer scene in Seattle.  They’ll have 50 taps, 3 cask stations and 29 refrigerators of beer and cider to go.

Lowercase Brewery Expansion And New Taproom Update

It’s been a few months since Lower Case Brewing Company announced the closing of their taproom in South Park.  The last hurrah was on April 30th, and that was followed by a ‘kill the keg’ party on May 1st.  At that time, Lowercase was optimistic that they’d be able to open their new taproom location in Georgetown by early Summer.

The bad news is that, primary due to unfortunate delays with required construction permits, an early Summer launch isn’t going to happen.  The good news, however, is that they now finally have all the permits they need to proceed with construction, so their new target is to have the new taproom open before the end of this Summer.
