Craft Beer Monger’s Picks For Seattle Beer Week 10

Ten years ago.  That’s when it all began.  That’s when Seattle area craft beer lovers got to experience the first ever Seattle Beer Week and the first ever official Seattle Beer Week beer (a double IPA from Pike Brewing Company).  Back then, many of our favorite local craft breweries and craft beer bars didn’t even exist yet.  Whereas today, it seems, we have a craft brewery or craft beer bar around almost every corner.

More craft breweries and more craft beer bars means even more Seattle Beer Week events.  Are you ready?  Surviving the week (actually 11 days) will take careful planning. I’m here to give you some suggestions on which events you might want to check out.  So sit back, if you’ve managed to pick up any yet, grab yourself a can of this year’s official Seattle Beer Week beer – Citrus Galaxy IPA from Georgetown Brewing Company – and take a look a Craft Beer Monger’s Picks for Seattle Beer Week 10.

Field To Ferment Fresh Hop Pale Ale (Centennial) Arrives Today From Fremont Brewing

It’s harvest time up in the Yakima Valley, the #1 hop growing region in the World.  Our proximity to the hop fields of Yakima Valley means that the Northwest, particularly Washington State, is in a prime location to enjoy one of the best benefits for craft beer lovers this time of year: Fresh Hop Ales.

As has become the norm, Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) was first out of the gate, releasing their Fresh Hop IPA back on August 23rd.  Now, Fremont Brewing Company is ready to release the first of their Fresh Hop Ales for 2017.  Field To Ferment Fresh Hop Pale Ale (each release featuring Centennial, Amarillo and Citra hops respectively) arrives today, 9/6, in Fremont’s Urban Beer Garden.

Craft Beer Monger’s Top Picks For Seattle Beer Week #9

Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the past year has flown by so quickly.  Seattle Beer Week #8 almost feels like it was just a few weeks ago.  Yet here we are, with Seattle Beer Week #9 kicking off in just two days.  Have you had an opportunity to look over the ever-growing list of events on the official Seattle Beer Week website?  With so many events to choose from, many of which happen on the same day or even at the same time, you may have to make some difficult choices regarding which events to attend.  Here are my top picks for Seattle Beer Week #9.

Things get under way with the Official Seattle Beer Week Kickoff this Thursday, May 4th.  There are  5 stops on the Seattle Beer Week (SBW) kickoff tour.  Things start off at 4:30 pm at the new Flatstick Pub location in Pioneer Square.  The other stops on this year’s kickoff tour include: Beveridge Place Pub (6:30 pm and Cask-O-Rama will be going on), Brouwer’s Cafe (7:45 pm), Naked City Brewery & Taphouse (9:00 pm), with the evening closing out at The Pine Box (10:30 pm).

Ethan Stowell’s Bramling Cross restaurant is betting you’ll still have some energy and a hearty appetite left over after the end of Seattle Beer Week (SBW) on May 14th.  That’s because just one day after SBW 2017 wraps up, on Monday, May 15th, they’ll be hosting a beer feast featuring beers from Fremont Brewing Company.

This evening of gastronomic delights, which Bramling Cross has described as a family-style feast, will feature several tasty selections from Chef Travis Post, all expertly paired with six different beers from Fremont Brewing Company.

fbc-bbomb-release-party-graphic-2016

Bottle releases have become a pretty big deal in the Seattle area.  It feels like just about every other weekend, there’s a new release (or several) coming out at one local craft brewery or another.  Fremont Brewing Company has definitely had their share of sought after releases, including their recent release of The Ancient One series (Dark Star & B-Bomb versions).  I heard the line for those bottles started as early as 4:30 am.

Your possible adverse feelings about standing in line for a beer release notwithstanding, the time has come to let you know that Fremont Brewing will be releasing the 2016 Version of B-Bomb in just over one week on “B-Bomb Friday”, November 25th.

Hopheads rejoice.  It’s Fresh Hop season!  It all kicked off this past Friday when Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor), released their 2016 Fresh Hop IPA.  Now, Fremont Brewing Company is preparing to release their 2016 Fresh Hop Pale Ale.

In a unique twist, however, Fremont isn’t just brewing one fresh hop recipe.  They’ll be brewing during the whole hop harvest season up in the Yakima valley, and  using four different hop varieties as each one his harvested throughout the season.

The Lamb Arrives Next Week From Fremont Brewing

FBC-The-Lamb-2016[1]

For most craft beer fans, seeking out a particular beer is a simple matter of checking a few of your local craft bottle shops to see if they have any in stock.  This works just fine for most beers out there.  However, there are those occasional and highly sought after beers where, if you really want to get your hands on a bottle or two, you’ll want to head to the bottle release at the brewery.

Fremont Brewing Company brews several beers that are popular enough to draw a line on the day of their release.  The most recent was last month’s release of The Rusty Nail – a delicious, bourbon barrel aged Oatmeal Stout.  Now, Fremont is ready to release another beer that could draw a crowd: The Lamb.

Nearing The Halfway Point Of Seattle Beer Week #8 – UPDATED

20160513_092720

Today, Monday May 16th, is day number 5 of Seattle Beer Week #8, which means we’re about halfway through.  Things kicked off last Thursday at Reuben’s Brews with the official tapping of the first keg of the official Seattle Beer Week beer: Daily Pale, followed by the opening night pub crawl.  I had to drop by Reuben’s, of course, for the kickoff and then found my way to Beveridge Place Pub for stop #3 on the crawl.

Since then, the events have been coming pretty much non-stop.  The highlights for me so far have been the Underberg Back In Black Stout Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe, Satanic Metal C.O.W. Night at Toronado and, even though I had to leave a bit early, Firestone Walker & Holy Mountain last night at The Pine Box.
