Hellbent Brewing Prepares For Their 2017 Fresh Hoptoberfest

The end of Summer and the return of Fall is a double-edged sword in the Pacific Northwest.  The downside is that we start to lose our Summer sun and Summer temperatures.  The upside, however, is that Fall brings along with it all those wonderful, aromatic, tasty Fresh Hop Ales.

Hellbent Brewing Company is celebrating this Fresh Hop season in a big way.  They’re throwing a big party on Saturday, September 30th, featuring the release of their own Amarillo Fresh Hop IPA.

Join Counterbalance Brewing For A Fall Equinox Celebration

Counterbalance Belgian Golden Strong Ale

People are sometimes confused by the location of Counterbalance Brewing Company.  Based on the name most locals assume, understandably, that they would be in or near the Queen Anne neighborhood.  They are not.  Counterbalance is, in the West end of Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood.  They went with the Counterbalance name because that’s where founders Frank Lawrence and Jeff Howell grew up.

Harvestfest Happens This Month In SoDo

Can you have too many craft beer festivals?  It’s a quiet, behind-the-scenes type of debate here in the Northwest where breweries and craft beer festivals are plentiful.  We have so many annual festivals that some attendees and some breweries can sometimes get festival fatigue.  Those on the other side of the coin argue that there can’t be too much of a good thing and any reason one can find to create a new craft beer festival should be taken advantage of.

I can understand the viewpoint on both sides of this debate but I figure, as long as all these festivals can still find enough interested craft beer lovers to attend, then we’ll keep getting more.  With that in mind, I’d like to introduce you to the Seattle Harvestfest, which will be coming to Utah Avenue South next Thursday, September 14th.  Brought to you by Cask Creek Productions, this festival is a celebration of all the Fall/Harvest season styles we all enjoy.

Beard And Bine Arrives This Friday From The Lagunitas Seattle Tap Room & Beer Sanctuary

Back in late July, I told you about a special brew day I attended at the Lagunitas Seattle Taproom & Beer Sanctuary. I joined Lagunitas and a whole host of their hop and barley farming partners to brew what would become the first Seattle exclusive beer to come out of the brewery since they took over their space in Ballard from Hilliard’s.

From what I could tell, this was a rather experimental brew with no strictly set recipe.  In the end, it wound up including Caliente, Ron Mexico, and Galaxy hops, giving it a burst of tropical brightness on top of a smooth, blonde, 2-row malted barley backbone.

What could be better than enjoying some delicious craft beers and tasty food from some of Seattle’s favorite breweries, food trucks and restaurants on a crisp, Fall evening in October?  I know, enjoying those tasty beers and delicious food all while helping raise money to help sick children’s dreams come true.

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington is in the business of making children smile.  They do whatever they can to grant as many wishes as possible to local children with life-threatening medical conditions and now, they’ve teamed up with several local businesses to bring you an event filled with beer, cider and food samplings from some of Seattle’s favorite breweries, food trucks and restaurants.

Four Breweries Team Up To Host Ballard Oktoberfest

Is it really getting to be that time already?  Summer, especially in Seattle, always seems so darn short.  A couple of weeks ago I was already seeing pumpkin beers appearing on craft beer store shelves and now, here come the Oktoberfest announcements.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love Fall and the Seasonal craft styles that come along with it, but it’s a bittersweet reminder that the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer and Summer is starting to fade.

Of course, as I just mentioned, Fall’s arrival also means Oktoberfest biers and Oktoberfest celebrations.  The Märzen/Oktoberfest style is probably my favorite style of Lager.  Sure, a well made Pilsner is great on a hot Summer day, but I love the more toasty malt flavors of a good Märzen.  If you’re also a fan of a good Märzen and other German/European styles (Hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen, Kölsch, Vienna Lager, Roggenbier, etc.) then you’ll want to mark your calendar for September 16th and this year’s Ballard Oktoberfest.

Stoup Brewing Is Preparing To Throw A Yard Party

We’ve been having a great Summer in Seattle.  It’s been wonderfully warm (Oh, stop complaining! How often do we get the heat?  Plus, it’s cooler again this week.)  We broke the record for number of days without rain at 52 (breaking the old record of 51 set in 1951), and great, locally-brewed, Summertime craft beers are on tap everywhere you look.  We won’t discuss the BC smoke though…

Stoup Brewing Company has been enjoying all that beautiful weather out there too and now they’re preparing to host their largest event of the Summer – a yard party on Saturday, August 26th from 2 pm to 10 pm.  They’ll have great beer (of course!), lots of food, live bands and activities for the whole family thanks to the Seattle Children’s Museum.

The Brewmaster’s Taproom Prepares For Their 1st Anniversary

There are quite a few breweries and craft beer bars right in Seattle, North of Seattle and East of Seattle.  South of Seattle though, until you get down closer to Tacoma, breweries and even craft beer bars become more sparse and difficult to find.  As far as breweries south of Seattle city limits go, we’ve got Odin in Tukwila, Elliott Bay in Burien and Airways Brewing (CBM Sponsor) in Kent (plus Strong Arm, Four Generals and Herbert B. Friendly in Renton).

Craft beer bars seem even more sparse South of Seattle.  The only ones that come immediately to mind are the Dog & Pony Alehouse (Renton), Pit Stop Taproom & Pub (Burien) and, of course, The Brewmaster’s Taproom (Renton).  Just a reminder, though, the the grand opening for Burien’s newest craft beer bar, Flight Path, happens tomorrow at 5 pm.

Lagunitas Brews Their First Seattle Exclusive Beer

I’ve always enjoyed the beers coming out of Lagunitas Brewing Company.  I even used to live in Petaluma, CA but I moved to Seattle just a few years after they opened and never had the opportunity to visit the brewery there (it was also before I started writing about craft beer).  That’s why I was excited when the news broke last year that Lagunitas would be opening a brewery right here in Seattle – taking over the space formerly occupied by Hilliard’s Brewing.

After a media/friends/family sneak peek, The Lagunitas Seattle Taproom And Beer Sanctuary opened their doors back on January 12th.  At the time, there was a rumor going around that the new Seattle location would be producing some pilot batches of new, unique beers that would only be available in the Seattle market.  Those rumors were quickly confirmed, but no date was set for when those Seattle-only brews would begin.

Bale Breaker Announces Their 2017 Summer Food Truck Lineup

Some things just go together, like peanut butter and jelly, chicken and waffles, meat and cheese.  The best pairing for us craft beer lovers, however, might just be the partnership between craft breweries and food trucks.  It’s the perfect arrangement for breweries that don’t serve their own food, as well as for the food trucks.  Brewery patrons don’t have to leave the brewery to go eat or worry about bringing their own food, and the food trucks get a steady supply of customers who need something to accompany those tasty craft beers they just ordered.

For some breweries, like Bale Breaker Brewing Company in Yakima, having food trucks is especially important because there aren’t a lot of food options right nearby.  That’s why Bale Breaker has arranged to have food trucks at the brewery 6 days a week, all summer long through Labor Day.
