Foggy Noggin Is Hosting An English IPA Tap Takeover

After a long Fn week.  I bet you could use a Fn beer, am I right?  Now, are you a fan of English style IPAs?  They differ a bit from American style IPAs with their bitter yet smooth finish and a pronounced but never over-the-top hop character.  American style IPAs tend to be much more in your face with the hops, slapping you with a big blast of hop aroma and flavor.  American IPAs also tend to have, on average, a higher ABV than English style IPAs.

Foggy Noggin Brewing Company up in Bothell has lots of experience brewing English style Ales.  In fact, it’s their specialty.  Now, they’d like to devote a special day to just English style IPAs so, this coming Saturday, June 24th, Foggy Noggin will be hosting their first ever/first annual English IPA Tap Takeover.

Fremont Brewing Releases Pride Kölsch For Pride Month

This month is Pride Month in Seattle and across the nation.  There are several Pride themed events happening around Seattle, culminating on June 23-25, when the Pride Parade, Seattle PrideFest, Trans Pride, and Seattle Dyke March & Rally will take place.

Fremont Brewing Company supports Pride Month and cares about the safety and self-determination of the LGBTQ community. They also want to help foster an LGBTQ presence in the craft beer World.  To that end, they are preparing once again this year to release their Pride Kölsch, which will arrive just in time for all of Seattle Pride Month’s biggest events.

12th Of Never Ale From Lagunitas Gets A Big Brother

Last year, Lagunitas Brewing Company introduced 12th Of Never Ale, their first ever canned beer.  This assertive IPA is citrusy and full-bodied yet still light on the palate.  Like so many other beers from Lagunitas, it became an instant hit and Summertime favorite for many craft beer lovers.  Lagunitas was even nice enough to provide an ample supply of 12th Of Never Ale for a local, private fundraising event I recently attended.  Thanks guys!

Well, 12th Of Never Ale is back for 2017.  This time, however, there’s one big difference – the size.  Those cute little 12oz cans of 12th Of Never you’ve been drinking?  Yeah, they have a new big brother: the 12th Of Never 19 oz tall boy.  That’s right.  This Summer, when you take 12th Of Never along for your adventures, you’ll be able to bring it in a new container that will give the other beers people have packed in a serious case of can envy.

Melvin Brewing Opens In Bellingham

Melvin Brewing Company out of Alpine and Jackson, Wyoming brews some pretty tasty beers.  Since they began distribution in the Seattle area in early 2016, I’ve come to really appreciate several of their offerings.  The two of their beers people around here are probably the most familiar with include their wildly popular 2×4 Imperial IPA and, of course, last year’s 3-Way IPA (brewed in conjunction with Fort George Brewing Company and Barley Brown’s).

First launched in 2009, Melvin took off quickly and gained high praise from the brewing industry, including a 2012 Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival for their 2×4 Imperial IPA (among other awards).  Now, they’ve launched a 3rd location, and their first full-scale brewpub, right here in Washington State.  Opened in Bellingham on June 3rd, Melvin’s brewpub offers 20 taps (including one rotating guest tap) and a full menu.

Firestone Walker Introduces Adversus IPA

After retiring their Proprietor’s Reserve Series last year (which included one of my all time favorite IPAs, Double Jack), Firestone Walker Brewing Company embarked on two new series of IPAs.  First came the Luponic Distortion series, which is currently on version #6 and then came what is probably my new favorite IPA from Firestone Walker, Fortem; the first in their new Leo v. Ursus series.

I’ve been enjoying plenty of Fortem since it arrived in late February.  Now, I’m eager to try the next beer in the Leo v. Ursus series: Adversus.  It was released at Firestone Walker back on June 10th and should start arriving on Seattle store shelves and taps any day now.

Chainline Brewing & Georgetown Brewing Prepare To Release Their Bunk Beds Collaboration

The majority of the craft beer styles we all love to enjoy are Ales.  Pales, IPAs, Stouts, Porters, Browns, Barleywines, Kolschs, Saisons, Lambics and more are all types of Ales.  When most people think of Lagers, they tend to, unfortunately, think of beers like Budweiser, Miller, Corona and the like.  While these brands are lagers (mass-produced, low-quality adjunct Lagers), don’t forget that most classic German beers are also Lagers. They include such classic styles as: Pilsner, Märzen/Oktoberfest, Bock/Doppelbock, Maibock, Helles Lager, Rauchbier and more.

There are also more American style Lagers such as Malt Liquor, Steam Beer (such as Anchor Steam*), Imperial Pilsner as well as Pale Lager and India Pale Lager, which are primarily intended to be lighter bodied versions of their Ale counterparts.  Creating a Pale Lager or India Pale Lager is quite similar to creating a Pale Ale or India Pale Ale, the main difference being the type of yeast used and, of course, the fermentation temperature.  Ales like things a bit warmer (mid to high 60’s), while Lagers like things a bit cooler (mid to high 30’s).

Bale Breaker Announces Their 2017 Summer Food Truck Lineup

Some things just go together, like peanut butter and jelly, chicken and waffles, meat and cheese.  The best pairing for us craft beer lovers, however, might just be the partnership between craft breweries and food trucks.  It’s the perfect arrangement for breweries that don’t serve their own food, as well as for the food trucks.  Brewery patrons don’t have to leave the brewery to go eat or worry about bringing their own food, and the food trucks get a steady supply of customers who need something to accompany those tasty craft beers they just ordered.

For some breweries, like Bale Breaker Brewing Company in Yakima, having food trucks is especially important because there aren’t a lot of food options right nearby.  That’s why Bale Breaker has arranged to have food trucks at the brewery 6 days a week, all summer long through Labor Day.

Hellbent Brewing Prepares For Their 2nd Anniversary

With the proliferation of new breweries in the Seattle area, it seems that there’s another anniversary celebration around every corner.  I recently told you about the anniversary celebrations at Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor), Lucky Envelope Brewing and Top Rung Brewing and now it’s time for another young Seattle brewery to celebrate.

Coming up next Saturday, June 10th, Hellbent Brewing Company (who recently brought you the event: ‘Roquefort One – A Cheese Wars Story‘) will be celebrating their 2nd Anniversary.

Discover A New Take On Some Familiar Hops With Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 006 From Firestone Walker

Firestone Walker Brewing Company puts out some truly exceptional beers.  Their Proprietor’s Vintage Series (which includes beers such as Bravo, Parabola, Stickee Monkee and more) can’t be beat and they make some excellent IPAs as well.  Their Double Jack Imperial IPA used to be my favorite (determined through repeated blind tastings) but, in late 2016, they decided to retire their Proprietor’s Reserve Series of beers which included Double Jack, Opal (a dry-hopped Saison) and Wookey Jack (Black Rye IPA).

I was initially disappointed when Firestone discontinued Double Jack but I later realized that they were merely adjusting to the ever changing landscape defined by all the craft beer enthusiasts out there.  Lately, the underlying attitude seems to be that having a few well known beers, even if those beers are excellent and highly rated, isn’t enough anymore.  Sure, you’re still respected and people will still think highly of your beers but, if you want to keep that buzz going and stay on the forefront of what’s happening in the craft beer World, you have to keep constantly coming out with something new and exciting.

Two Special Releases From Counterbalance Brewing & 2bar Spirits

I’ve always been an advocate for Seattle’s South end breweries.  Living in the South end myself I, of course, spend a lot of time at these places and enjoy seeing them succeed.  A couple of years back I penned an article with some great reasons to visit Seattle’s South end breweries and, earlier this year, I told you about the newly formed South Seattle Brewery Coalition.

That’s why I was very pleased when I heard the news that Counterbalance Brewing Company had teamed up with 2bar Spirits (who also happens to be in Seattle’s South end) for a unique Whiskey/Stout collaboration.

Aging Stouts in Whiskey barrels is nothing new.  Breweries have been doing it for years and indeed Whiskey and Bourbon barrel aged Stouts are some of my favorites.  This time, however, things went a bit in the other direction.  2bar Spirits used the actual mash bill from Counterbalance’s Kushetka Imperial Stout to produce this particular Whiskey, then aged it for 2 years in 2bar Whiskey barrels.
