Celebrating brewery anniversaries in the time of COVID19 feels a bit sad. I’ve celebrated quite a few this year, in properly socially-distanced form, but it just doesn’t feel the same. Sure, we can all still do what’s necessary to help support our favorite craft breweries during this difficult time, but not being able to attend a big party/gathering, nor any other type of festivals or craft beer events this year, is really starting to wear on me.
Counterbalance Brewing Company in Georgetown understand this. I know they’d love to have a great big party to celebrate, but that wouldn’t be safe or responsible. Instead, they’ve put together a 3-day event with limited outdoor seating (make your reservations now!), food trucks, and 3 new beer releases and a few special releases from their cellar.
What a year it’s been. We’ve had to deal with political madness, various ongoing marches and protests across the nation, mask mandates and lockdowns that have hurt and even destroyed so many businesses and forced so many onto unemployment, sports teams playing without any fans in the stands, and more. Thank God for beer, right? It provides at least a bit of joy in these dark and uncertain times.
As I’m sure most of you know, during this latest lockdown, I encourage all of my readers to do their part in supporting our local craft breweries, craft bottle shops and craft beer bars (at least those who are able to still serve right now because they have outdoor seating). They need our help to survive and we want them to still be around when things finally get back to normal – or whatever the new normal will be. Just be sure to always wear your mask and practice proper social distancing when picking up your beverages from your favorite places.
This year is the 33rd year the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) has hosted their Winter Beer Taste. This year, however, due to COVID19, the PNA Winter Beer Taste is going virtual, with three different online events starting November 12th.
After purchasing your tickets for each of the three events, you’ll have to take a trip down to the PNA Center 5 days before each event to pick up your beers. Make sure they’re chilled, and then kick back and enjoy them in the comfort of your own home.
2020 has thrown a lot at us. It’s stressing everyone out, pushing businesses to their limit and, in some sad cases, has even claimed a few of our favorite spots. Getting through this will be tough, but with resourcefulness and perseverance, many businesses are doing what it takes to keep thing afloat.
Our World has really changed. There’s no doubt about it. With the COVID-19 pandemic and America’s pitiful response. We can’t expect things to get back to normal anytime soon. Personally, other than trump and his pitiful and downright criminal response, I blame the thousands of selfish and ignorant idiots who continue to flaunt social distancing rules and refuse to wear masks.
Many event organizers have already cancelled several events scheduled for this Fall. One of the more painful casualties will be Oktoberfest celebrations. In fact, Oktoberfest has even been cancelled in Germany this year – the first time it’s been cancelled since World War II. That means, if you want to celebrate Oktoberfest this year, you’ll have to do it at home – and Tavour is ready to help.
Rather than making donations contingent upon Dankful sales success, Sierra Nevada has committed to at least $1 million in donations over the next year, which will be supported in part by Dankful sales. Sierra Nevada will partner with new nonprofits each quarter, allowing the brewery to be nimble and immediate in its efforts.
“With ongoing fundraising through Dankful, we can immediately support those nonprofits doing critical work in our communities by getting them what they need when they need it,” explained Sierra Nevada Vice President Sierra Grossman. “Dankful allows us to focus on what we do best: supporting the causes we believe in and brewing great beer.”
Our World is changing. These days, most of us aren’t going about our usual daily routines the way we were just a few months ago. We’ve all had to make adjustments and that’s especially true of local small businesses, like breweries, trying to stay afloat in these trying times. Willingness to try new things has become a necessity for survival.
It wasn’t until just a couple of years ago that Georgetown Brewing Company started canning some of their beers. You can walk into just about any store that carries craft beer these days and find canned six-packs of Lucille, Roger’s Pilsner or Bodhizafa IPA. However, Georgtown’s flagship beer: Manny’s Pale Ale, has been conspicuously missing from their canned offerings, until now that is. On Saturday, May 23rd, Georgetown Brewing will offer Manny’s in the can for the first time.
The COVID-19 crisis has made things difficult for many businesses, forcing them to look for new ways to do business and get their products to consumers. Most craft breweries have been quick to adapt and one company that’s really been benefiting as a result is Tavour. Breweries are looking to them as another way to increase their distribution and get their beers into the hands of more consumers.
Just last week I was telling you how Mikkeller had started making their beers available through Tavour. Now, WeldWerks Brewing out of Colorado is getting in on the act. They’ll be making their popular Medianoche Imperial Stout available through Tavour starting next week.
I published an article introducing Tavour way back in 2015. They started somewhat small and most of the beers I could get through them back then I could also find at my local bottle shops. Since then, however, they’ve really grown. I started using Tavour again myself over the past few months, and I’ve really been impressed with the selection. I see lots of beers from them these days that I would never be able to find in any local shops.
As we’ve all been dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, many breweries have looked to Tavour to help increase sales. In fact, Seattle’s own Holy Mountain Brewing put some of their beers on Tavour last month which, to my knowledge, is the first time Holy Mountain beers have been available through Tavour. Now, the popular and well known brewery Mikkeller will start selling their beers through Tavour.
