Lagunitas Brews Their First Seattle Exclusive Beer

I’ve always enjoyed the beers coming out of Lagunitas Brewing Company.  I even used to live in Petaluma, CA but I moved to Seattle just a few years after they opened and never had the opportunity to visit the brewery there (it was also before I started writing about craft beer).  That’s why I was excited when the news broke last year that Lagunitas would be opening a brewery right here in Seattle – taking over the space formerly occupied by Hilliard’s Brewing.

After a media/friends/family sneak peek, The Lagunitas Seattle Taproom And Beer Sanctuary opened their doors back on January 12th.  At the time, there was a rumor going around that the new Seattle location would be producing some pilot batches of new, unique beers that would only be available in the Seattle market.  Those rumors were quickly confirmed, but no date was set for when those Seattle-only brews would begin.

50 Craft Breweries Unveil Their Recipes For Homebrewers

Are you a homebrewer?  Even if you aren’t, but you are a craft beer fan, I’m willing to bet you know at least a few people who are homebrewers.  I myself first started homebrewing well over 20 years ago (but I’m between systems right now, which is killing me!) and back then, just like today, many homebrewers started out by trying to recreate some of their favorite craft beers at home.

Back in my early days, when craft breweries were few and far between, the holy grail for many homebrewers was to successfully reproduce or ‘clone’ beers like Sierra Nevada Brewing‘s Pale Ale.  If you could do that as a homebrewer back in the early 90’s, then you really knew your stuff.  The challenge was that you pretty much had to come up with the recipe on your own.  The homebrewing community was much smaller, there were few helpful recipe guides and there was no brewing software like BeerSmith or Brewtarget  to help you out.

Tankard & Tun Opens Today

Last night my wife and I, along with several other members of the local media, were fortunate to attend a special preview night at Seattle’s newest craft beer and gourmet food spot: Tankard & Tun.  Created by Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, the same people who brought you Seattle’s iconic Pike Brewing Company, this Oyster bar and restaurant is a bit more upscale and, fittingly, is right upstairs from The Pike.

I first told you about Tankard & Tun back in April, when it was first announced and the Finkels were deep into construction and planning.  It’s a beautiful, spread out space with a moderately sized bar area (the only section that is 21 and over only) a fermentation deck and few separate seating areas, including a private event mezzanine that’s upstairs but somehow still doesn’t make you feel removed from the market.

Pike Brewing Announces Tankard & Tun

Pike Brewing Company has been a fixture of the Seattle craft beer scene since way back in 1989.  Founders Charles and Rose Ann Finkel have also been instrumental in helping expand the craft beer scene across Seattle and indeed across the nation.  Their tireless work to help promote craft beer as well as all the wonderful craft beer and food parings that are possible out there has been an inspiration to countless brewers and chefs.

Now, Charles and Rose Ann are preparing for Pike’s biggest expansion in over 21 years.  Pike Brewing Company is pleased to announce Tankard & Tun.  Coming this Summer, Tankard & Tun is a new restaurant, oyster bar and brew deck that will also provide Pike with an expanded brew cellar.

Sumerian Brewing Prepares For Their 2nd Anniversary And Starts Canning

Sumerian Brewing Company has a lot on their plate right now.  They continue to add new accounts, so you can now find their beers at 9 Costco locations, Xfinity Arena, 7-11, Haggen stores and Safeway stores, in addition to your local craft bottle shop.  They’ve also worked to get their beers onto Washington State ferries and will also be one of several local craft beer choices available at Safeco Field for the coming 2017 Seattle Mariners season (watch for a Mariners 2017 Season Food & Drink preview coming in early April).

In addition, Sumerian is preparing for their 2nd Anniversary celebration and have also started to release their first canned beers thanks to their new canning line.  The first of their beers up in cans will be Hopruption – formerly known as Eruption Double IPA.

Lagunitas Brewing Has Arrived In Seattle

Last night, I was fortunate to attend a sneak peek preview party for media and industry friends at Lagunitas Brewing Company‘s newest location in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.  As you’ve probably heard, they took over the space formerly occupied by Hilliard’s Brewing, which was purchased last year by Odin Brewing.  Lagunitas treated us to food, live music, acrobatic and sideshow performers mingling among the crowd and, of course, great craft beer from one of my favorite California craft breweries.

Lagunitas has made some small but significant changes to the space, including a new, spacious island bar in the middle of the taproom, large, sturdy beer hall style tables with bench seating and brand new, restaurant-quality bathrooms.  They want to open to the public as soon as possible and, from what I saw last night, they’re just about ready.  You should be enjoying your favorite Lagunitas beers there before the end of this month.

Lowercase Brewing Prepares For Their 3rd Anniversary – UPDATED

Lowercase Brewing Company first opened their doors back in early 2014 in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood, sharing a building with another South Park newcomer, Burdick Brewing Company.  If you’ve been following their stories, however, then you know that both breweries had to close their taprooms last year due to prohibitively expensive building upgrades the city demanded to keep the taprooms open in that location.

Burdick simply closed their taproom and decided to go the production brewery route.  Lowercase Brewing, however, wanted to keep their taproom up and running so they started looking for a new location, which they found on Airport Way in Georgetown.  After a few delays with permits and such, Lowercase was finally able to open their new taproom last November.  The brewery itself stayed at their original location in South Park, allowing them to install an even lager brewing system and increase their capacity.  Incidentally, I have also heard rumblings that Burdick Brewing might be looking for a new taproom location as well.  I’ll keep you posted.

Lowercase Brewing’s Georgetown Taproom Opens Next Week

Last September, Lowercase Brewing Company was one of many breweries I mentioned in a Craft Beer Monger feature article about Great Reasons To Check Out Seattle’s South End Breweries.  They’ve been operating out of a space in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood since January 2014, but in early 2016 Lowercase found out they would have to close their taproom in South Park, so they started looking for a new location, and they found one in Georgetown.

Since then, they’ve been working hard to get the new Georgetown taproom ready for business.  Some initial permitting delays pushed back their original opening date but now they’re ready for their big reveal.  Lowercase Brewing is pleased to announced that the grand opening for their new taproom, on Airport Way in Georgetown, will be next Friday, November 11th starting at 4 pm.

Lowercase Brewery Expansion And New Taproom Update

It’s been a few months since Lower Case Brewing Company announced the closing of their taproom in South Park.  The last hurrah was on April 30th, and that was followed by a ‘kill the keg’ party on May 1st.  At that time, Lowercase was optimistic that they’d be able to open their new taproom location in Georgetown by early Summer.

The bad news is that, primary due to unfortunate delays with required construction permits, an early Summer launch isn’t going to happen.  The good news, however, is that they now finally have all the permits they need to proceed with construction, so their new target is to have the new taproom open before the end of this Summer.

Burdick Brewing Is Having An Equipment Sale

Last year, Burdick Breiwng Company in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood closed the doors to their taproom.  They’re still in the same location and are still brewing beer, but the city wanted them to make some upgrades to the taproom that were cost prohibitive, so Burdick decided instead to focus on bottling their beers and getting them on more taps around the city.

Now, Burdick is ready to unload some of the equipment they no longer need, since the taproom is no longer open.  So, they are holding a sale this coming Saturday the 11th, where you’ll be able to pick up some great surplus items.
