Ninkasi Bottles First Rule IPA

Things are moving pretty quickly in today’s craft beer World.  New craft breweries are popping up everywhere like weeds and exciting new beers are being released constantly.  Many of these new beers can only be found on tap but if they become popular enough, they usually find their way into bottles or cans.

Ninkasi Brewing Company loves hoppy beers and believes in “brewing without limitations.”  It was in this spirit that they added First Rule IPA to their Rare & Delicious Series back in March.  Now, they’re ready to promote this beer that’s been so popular on tap to their Special Release Series in 12 oz and 22 oz bottles.

Bale Breaker Announces Sesiones del Migrante Mango IPA

Just last week I told you about the Harvest Collaboration Series form Bale Breaker Brewing Company, in which they paired with four different craft breweries to create the beers for the series.  They’ll have staggered releases from August through October.  Now, while they’re still in the collaborative mood, Bale Breaker is at it again with the upcoming release of Sesiones del Migrante Mango IPA in six-packs.

Sesiones del Migrante is a series of beers that Bale Breaker has brewed in conjunction with Mexican and American breweries, in a collaboration that spans 5 breweries and 2 countries.  Created in celebration of the Mexican migrant workers who travel to the Yakima Valley each year to help harvest the precious hops for all those wonderful craft beers we all enjoy, it’s due to arrive both on tap and in cans on September 7th and will see distribution throughout Washington and Northern Idaho.

Sierra Nevada Partners With Brauhaus Miltenberger To Create The Ultimate Oktoberfest Beer

I wonder how many young craft beer drinkers today realize that they owe the wonderful proliferation of craft beer in the U.S., in small part, to President Jimmy Carter and his brother Billy.  On October 14th, 1978, spurred on by his brother Billy who was a homebrewer, Jimmy Carter signed a bill into law which allowed homebrewing of beer in the United States. Prior to this ruling, Sierra Nevada founders, Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi, had already been homebrewing in California’s Butte County.  When it became legal, however, they decided it was time to go pro and in 1979 Sierra Nevada Brewing Company as born in Chico.

Their first beer was the popular and iconic, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, followed soon after by Celebration IPA (now discontinued). Today, Sierra Nevada still brews many excellent and well known beers including: Torpedo Extra IPA, Otra Vez Gose, Hoptimum Triple IPA and, of course, their classic Bigfoot Barleywine plus, of course, their annual Beer Camp series of collaboration beers.  Now Sierra Nevada is ready to release their latest Seasonal creation.  This year, they have teamed up with Germany’s Brauhaus Miltenberger to create the ultimate Oktoberfest beer.

Counterbalance Brewing Debuts Their First Cans

I never used to be a big fan of the can.  Like most of you, I’m sure, I prefer to get my beers on tap whenever possible.  When it’s not possible, the bottle was and in many cases still is my favorite choice.  However, there can be no denying that cans have made a comeback in a big, big way.  They’re lighter, more portable, won’t break like glass bottles and they’re easy to pack out if you want to bring some beers long for a hiking or camping trip.

Many breweries have started canning recently and now Counterbalance Brewing Company is teaming up with the new Beer Star in White Center for the official release of their first canned beers.  First up for the can treatment are Counterbalance IPA and Raconteur Rye Pale Ale.

Fremont Brewing Releases Pride Kölsch For Pride Month

This month is Pride Month in Seattle and across the nation.  There are several Pride themed events happening around Seattle, culminating on June 23-25, when the Pride Parade, Seattle PrideFest, Trans Pride, and Seattle Dyke March & Rally will take place.

Fremont Brewing Company supports Pride Month and cares about the safety and self-determination of the LGBTQ community. They also want to help foster an LGBTQ presence in the craft beer World.  To that end, they are preparing once again this year to release their Pride Kölsch, which will arrive just in time for all of Seattle Pride Month’s biggest events.

12th Of Never Ale From Lagunitas Gets A Big Brother

Last year, Lagunitas Brewing Company introduced 12th Of Never Ale, their first ever canned beer.  This assertive IPA is citrusy and full-bodied yet still light on the palate.  Like so many other beers from Lagunitas, it became an instant hit and Summertime favorite for many craft beer lovers.  Lagunitas was even nice enough to provide an ample supply of 12th Of Never Ale for a local, private fundraising event I recently attended.  Thanks guys!

Well, 12th Of Never Ale is back for 2017.  This time, however, there’s one big difference – the size.  Those cute little 12oz cans of 12th Of Never you’ve been drinking?  Yeah, they have a new big brother: the 12th Of Never 19 oz tall boy.  That’s right.  This Summer, when you take 12th Of Never along for your adventures, you’ll be able to bring it in a new container that will give the other beers people have packed in a serious case of can envy.

Firestone Walker Introduces Adversus IPA

After retiring their Proprietor’s Reserve Series last year (which included one of my all time favorite IPAs, Double Jack), Firestone Walker Brewing Company embarked on two new series of IPAs.  First came the Luponic Distortion series, which is currently on version #6 and then came what is probably my new favorite IPA from Firestone Walker, Fortem; the first in their new Leo v. Ursus series.

I’ve been enjoying plenty of Fortem since it arrived in late February.  Now, I’m eager to try the next beer in the Leo v. Ursus series: Adversus.  It was released at Firestone Walker back on June 10th and should start arriving on Seattle store shelves and taps any day now.

Chainline Brewing & Georgetown Brewing Prepare To Release Their Bunk Beds Collaboration

The majority of the craft beer styles we all love to enjoy are Ales.  Pales, IPAs, Stouts, Porters, Browns, Barleywines, Kolschs, Saisons, Lambics and more are all types of Ales.  When most people think of Lagers, they tend to, unfortunately, think of beers like Budweiser, Miller, Corona and the like.  While these brands are lagers (mass-produced, low-quality adjunct Lagers), don’t forget that most classic German beers are also Lagers. They include such classic styles as: Pilsner, Märzen/Oktoberfest, Bock/Doppelbock, Maibock, Helles Lager, Rauchbier and more.

There are also more American style Lagers such as Malt Liquor, Steam Beer (such as Anchor Steam*), Imperial Pilsner as well as Pale Lager and India Pale Lager, which are primarily intended to be lighter bodied versions of their Ale counterparts.  Creating a Pale Lager or India Pale Lager is quite similar to creating a Pale Ale or India Pale Ale, the main difference being the type of yeast used and, of course, the fermentation temperature.  Ales like things a bit warmer (mid to high 60’s), while Lagers like things a bit cooler (mid to high 30’s).

Seafair Summer Ale Is Coming From Pike Brewing

 

Summer is almost here.  We had a bit of a tease over Memorial Day weekend (one of the hottest on record in the Puget Sound), but now we’re back to ‘normal’.  Oh joy.  We might have to wait just a bit longer before Summer truly arrives in Seattle, but at least we can start to enjoy all of the Summer Seasonals that make their return about this time each year.

I’ve already told you about the seasonal return of Lima Loca and Day Hike Summer Ale from Two Beers Brewing (CBM Sponsor), as well as the return of Hochzeit Pilsner and Beak Tweaker from Black Raven Brewing (CBM Sponsor).  Now, Pike Brewing Company is preparing to get in on the action with the upcoming release of their new Summer Seasonal: Seafair Summer Ale.

Are You Ready To Have Your Beak Tweaked By Black Raven Brewing?

 

Just the other day, I was telling you about how the changing seasons bring with them all the different Seasonal craft beers we enjoy as they make their annual returns.  As the weather warms that, of course, means it’s time for most people’s taste buds to leave Stouts, Porters and other malt-heavy beers behind (for the most part) and start seeking out crisper, lighter (in some cases), refreshing, hoppier beers.

For me, the tipping point each year is the annual Underberg Back In Black Stout Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe during Seattle Beer Week. It’s sort of the last hurrah for the year before the Seasonal changeover.  Granted, that changeover came a bit earlier this year, since Seattle Beer Week began a week earlier than in previous years.  That doesn’t mean I never drink Stouts in the Summer, but far less so than in the colder months.
