Seattle Mariners 2018 Food & Drink Preview

When you head to Safeco Field this year to watch the Seattle Mariners I sure hope you come hungry and thirsty, because the Mariners, Ethan Stowell Restaurants, Centerplate and several local restaurants and breweries have teamed up to make your dining experience for the 2018 season something to remember.

At yesterday’s preview event, I had the opportunity to sample many of the new food and drink offerings you’ll find waiting for you at the ball park this season. You’ll have to come try them all for yourself, perhaps at the home opener next Thursday, March 29th as you cheer on the Mariners against the Cleveland Indians.

Din Tai Fung And Jack’s BBQ Join The Lineup At Safeco Field

Safeco Field already has a great reputation for providing some of the very best food and drink available at a major league stadium.  Every year since 2014 I’ve been telling you about all the amazing gastronomic delights and wonderful, local craft beers you can enjoy while watching the Seattle Mariners play.

Now, with the 2018 season getting under way, it’s time once again to check out what you can expect at the Safe this season, including two big new names: Din Tai Fung and Jack’s BBQ.  Tomorrow, 3/21, I’ll be attending a special media preview of new Safeco Field menu items for the Mariners 2018 season, courtesy the Seattle MarinersCenterplate and Ethan Stowell Restaurants.

Lowercase Brewing Prepares For Their 4th Anniversary

Are you ready to party?  Lowercase Brewing Company certainly is.  Their taproom on Airport Way South in Georgetown turned one just this past November, but the brewery itself (still in South Park) has been around for nearly four years now.

I won’t re-hash the story of how Lowercase wound up with a brewery in South Park but a taproom in Georgetown here, but if you read my previous article (at the link above), it will explain the situation.  It actually wound up being a good thing for Lowercase because their Georgetown taproom is larger than their old one and in a better location to get more traffic.

In preparation for their upcoming 4th Anniversary celebration on January 20th (4 – 10 pm), Lowercase has brewed up 4 special beers (for 4 years): iRISH Stout, Strata IPA, Barrel-Aged Winter Warmer and Hop Snow Hazy IPA.  There’ll also be live music and BBQ.

Craft Beer Monger’s Top Picks For Seattle Beer Week #9

Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the past year has flown by so quickly.  Seattle Beer Week #8 almost feels like it was just a few weeks ago.  Yet here we are, with Seattle Beer Week #9 kicking off in just two days.  Have you had an opportunity to look over the ever-growing list of events on the official Seattle Beer Week website?  With so many events to choose from, many of which happen on the same day or even at the same time, you may have to make some difficult choices regarding which events to attend.  Here are my top picks for Seattle Beer Week #9.

Things get under way with the Official Seattle Beer Week Kickoff this Thursday, May 4th.  There are  5 stops on the Seattle Beer Week (SBW) kickoff tour.  Things start off at 4:30 pm at the new Flatstick Pub location in Pioneer Square.  The other stops on this year’s kickoff tour include: Beveridge Place Pub (6:30 pm and Cask-O-Rama will be going on), Brouwer’s Cafe (7:45 pm), Naked City Brewery & Taphouse (9:00 pm), with the evening closing out at The Pine Box (10:30 pm).

The Brewmaster’s Taproom Is Hosting A BBQ To Benefit Rez Dog Rescue

One of the things that many people enjoy about the local craft beer scene is that the majority of craft breweries and craft beer bars (at least those that don’t serve their own food) are dog-friendly.  That means we’re free to bring our well-behaved, furry, four-legged family members along with us when we visit many of our favorite craft beer spots.

Sadly, there are still too many dogs out there who are in desperate need of help, and that’s where rescue organizations like Rez Dog Rescue come in.  With a focus on the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation and Yakima County in-general, Rez Dog Rescue does all they can to help abused, injured and unwanted dogs and cats and help them find their furever homes.  To help them in their mission, The Brewmaster’s Taproom in Renton is hosting a BBQ fundraiser during Seattle Beer Week, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit Rez Dog Rescue.

A Look Back At The Waterways Cruises/Pike Brewing Dinner Cruise

15235602_10210025092296018_2646400766667409391_o

Last Friday, December 2nd, my wife and I attended a beer tasting dinner cruise courtesy of Waterways Cruises And Events, featuring beers from Pike Brewing Company.  This is the cruise I told you about just last month, which took us around Lake Union and Lake Washington as we enjoyed 5 different Pike Brewing Company beers and enjoyed a delicious, 4-course dinner.

Apart from a few somewhat loud and annoying shipmates at the next table and a small technical difficulty involving the last beer of the evening, we had a great meal and a wonderful time.  As a special bonus that we weren’t expecting, Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, founders of Pike Brewing Company, were in attendance on the cruise (as well Pike’s Jon Gores).  Charles took the time to visit each and every table, and spoke to us all at length about his passion for beer, Pike Brewing Company and the beers we would be enjoying during the cruise.

The 3rd Annual Summer End Pig Roast Is Coming Up At Stogies n Hops

StogiesNHopsLogoBIG

Summer is fading away in Seattle.  Our temperatures are down, the rain is back and the leaves are already starting to turn.  Heck, I’ve even already started drinking Oktoberfest beers (the official dates for Oktoberfest this year are September 17 thru October 3).  Fall is still officially a couple of weeks away though, so there’s still time for a few more Summertime celebrations before we welcome back the grey skies and rain for months.

Stogies n Hops (CBM Sponsor) is all set to celebrate the end of Summer with their 3rd Annual Summer End Pig Roast, which is also a celebration of the 20th Anniversaries of both Firestone Walker Brewing Company and Stone Brewing Company.

Seattle Beer Week Kicks Off Today

12967988_1025990040781652_2453014407683308424_o

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a pretty crazy last week or so leading up to Seattle Beer Week #8.  Between being busy at work (both of them), still mourning a bit for our dog, Bailei, and trying to plan out my Seattle Beer Week 2016 schedule (picking from, literally, hundreds of events), I’ve barely had time to breathe.

The event list for Seattle Beer Week seems to get a bit bigger each year.  There are always a few days where there are at least 2 or 3 different events all happening at the same time on opposite ends of town, so you have to make a choice.  Hitting every single event is absolutely impossible (and severe liver abuse!), so you have to pick your battles (or is it bottles?)

Now, it’s here.  Seattle Beer Week kicks off this evening at Reuben’s Brews in Ballard.  They’ll be open at noon today, but the official opening ceremony for Seattle Beer Week won’t take place until 5 pm.  The first keg of Daily Pale, the official beer of Seattle Beer Week #8, will be tapped and the Mayor’s Proclamation will be read.

Craft Beer Monger’s Picks For Seattle Beer Week 2016 – UPDATED

SBW8Logo1

I’ve been a fan of great craft beer ever since having my very first craft beer (a Red Tail Ale from Mendocino Brewing Company, if memory serves).  However, I didn’t really immerse myself into the Seattle Craft Beer scene until sometime in 2010.  Before that I was, of course, still enjoying craft beer, but my journalistic focus was geared more towards the console video game market.  I used to operate a couple of console gaming review sites (focusing mostly on Xbox), which are now closed down.

That means I haven’t been attending Seattle Beer Week for as many years as some of you out there.  The first time I attended a Seattle Beer Week event (and actually knew that I was doing so), was back during Seattle Beer Week #4 in 2010, and the first Seattle Beer Week I ever wrote about was Seattle Beer Week #5 in 2011.  Right now, that sure seems like a long time ago.

Now, with 2016 upon us, we’re just one week away from the kickoff of Seattle Beer Week #8.  That means it’s time once again for me to give you my picks for what sound like the best events at this year’s Seattle Beer Week, just as I’ve done each year since 2012.

Top Rung Prepares For Their 2nd Anniversary

943539_564504270247183_1132498225_n

I don’t get down to Olympia that often, so I have yet to visit Top Rung Brewing Company.  With Summer on the way, however, I’m hoping to get my motorcycle back on the road soon.  Then I can plan some day trips to visit several of the Washington State breweries that I haven’t had the chance to check out yet, including Top Rung.

Top Rung is the only 10bbl production brewery with a tasting room on site in the Lacey area and was founded by full time firefighters Casey Sobol and Jason Stoltz with the support of their families and investors.  They’ve been at it for a while now and are pleased to announce their 2nd Anniversary celebration coming up later this month.
