How It All Started:
My name is Michael Dieterle and I live in Seattle, Washington. I have a passion for great beer. I want to share that passion with you, and hopefully expand your beer drinking horizons. My love of craft beer began many years ago, when I was living in Northern California. Homebrewing had been legalized in the U.S. in 1978 and it didn’t take long before the first craft breweries began appearing. Some of my early favorite breweries from Northern California included Sierra Nevada Brewing, Mendocino Brewing and Anderson Valley Brewing.
I have been a writer/blogger for more than 15 years now, but when I first started blogging it was not about beer. I have been and, to a degree, still am an avid player of console video games. My first few blogs centered around Microsoft‘s Xbox console and, subsequently, the Xbox 360, their games and features. After blogging about gaming for several years, and attending many E3 and PAX expositions, I decided to shift the focus of my writing and concentrate more on my love of good food and, more importantly, great craft beer.
I began my first craft beer blogging site (http://beermonger.blogspot.com/) in February of 2011. Since moving to the Seattle area from California in the late 90’s I have become quite involved in the local craft beer scene, frequenting many of the local craft breweries and taprooms. Some of my favorite craft breweries are still from California (Firestone Walker Brewing & Lagunitas Brewing among many others), but I love the number as well as the diversity of craft breweries in the Puget Sound area; and that number just keeps expanding.
I follow what’s going on with as many local craft breweries as I can keep up with, and try to attend as many local craft beer events as possible throughout the year. I do my best to bring the essence of those experiences to you, thorough my writing and photos here at CraftBeerMonger.com. I hope you enjoy the site.
Advertising at CraftBeerMonger.com:
I opereated CraftBeerMonger.com for nearly 5 years (since August 2012) before adding any ads. I did this because I wanted my readers to know that I am never paid for the things I say. I accept sponsorships to help fund my exploits and have started running some ads on the site, but I never allow my sponsors or advertisers to affect my honest opinion – even when they’re footing the bill in the way of free samples, free admittance to an event, etc.
I blog about craft beer because I enjoy it, not to get rich. I want to share my experiences with you to deepen your understanding and appreciation of craft beer. I also enjoy helping many of our wonderful local breweries and taprooms spread the word about their establishments, their beers and their events so that you’re in the know. So, while I do run ads now, please know that it has not and will not affect my honesty and integrity. Thank you.
If you would like to contact me, you can email me at: CraftBeerMonger@gmail.com, or you can send me a message on Facebook or Twitter. If you spot me at a local event, please say hello. I love meeting and talking to new people in the craft beer community. Cheers!
