Spring is here. Temperatures are on the rise and Summer feels like it’s just around the corner. For some people, this might mean it’s time to put many of the darker, heavier craft beers on the back shelf and bring the lighter, fruitier, earthier, more floral Pales, IPAs, Hefeweizens, Golden Belgian Ales and other lighter styles forward.
You know what I say to that? I say go to Hell – Hellbent brewing that is. Now don’t get me wrong. I love all those lighter styles too but, warm weather or cold, I always enjoy a rich, dark complex bourbon barrel aged Stout, and that’s exactly what Hellbent Brewing Company will be delivering next month on May 15th.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout:
Hellbent Brewing’s very small batch of Imperial Stout is a full bodied rich in flavor and high in alcohol. It has a velvety chocolate flavor with subtle notes of coffee, bourbon, and toasted wood. It goes down smooth a finishes with a slight alcohol bite. It has been aged in second-use Woodinville whiskey barrels since October 2018.
I’m a fan of virtually all craft beer styles, so I always have a difficult if not impossible time answering the question: “What is your favorite style of craft beer?” Granted, I tend to drink more IPAs and more barrel age Stouts than other styles, but I also have a deep appreciation for Sour Ales, Pale Ales, Belgian Ales of all types and more. As I alluded to earlier, many people associate certain types of beers with certain times of year, and that’s fine if you prefer that route (and there are indeed certain beers that are quite seasonal for good reason). As for me though, I can appreciate a great craft beer, regardless of the style, just about any time of year. If you feel the same way and you’re a fan of rich, chocolaty, woody, barrel aged Stouts, then mark your calendar now for May 15th a noon, when Hellbent Brewing will be releasing this special Stout.
