Seattle is a city that’s just bursting at the seams with craft breweries. No matter were you are in the city, you’re likely not more than a few stones throws away from a craft brewery. With so many breweries to choose from though, how do you decide who the standouts are? How do you know which breweries to recommend to people here for a visit or those asking about which Seattle breweries they need to keep an eye on?
Two factors that can help you decide are, of course, the quality of the beers the brewery is putting out, and the demand for those beers whenever there’s a new release. By those two measures, among others, Fremont Brewing Company has become one of Seattle’s best known breweries, even outside of Washington. Many of their beers, particularly their barrel-aged offerings, have caught the attention of craft beer lovers both near and far. They even have a super secret society of members who “solemnly swear to devote themselves to the pursuit of the finest beers that ever were” – the Heron Hunting Club. Fremont Brewing already distributes their beers to 6 states, including Washington, and now they’re ready to expand into Montana with the help of Hayden Beverage Company.
Here is the full press release from Fremont Brewing Company:
SEATTLE — – Fremont Brewing of Seattle, Washington has teamed up with Hayden Beverage Company to bring Fremont’s best-selling craft beers to their neighbors in Montana. Hayden Beverage has been selling Fremont’s craft beer in Idaho since 2015 and began servicing Western Montana in September.
Fremont is bringing an array of world-class beers from to the Montana market with cans available in major grocery outlets and draft beer in select markets.
The Seattle-based brewery and taproom was founded in 2009 by Matt Lincecum and Sara Nelson and is now the fastest-growing brewery in Washington. Winner of countless awards, including the World Beer Cup; the Great American Beer Festival (most recently last year for their Field To Ferment Fresh Hop ale); a Gold medal at the Great Alaska Winter Beer and Barleywine Festival; RateBeer’s 2016 “100 Best Breweries in the World” award; and many medals at the famous Festival of Barrel-Aged Beers (FOBAB). Fremont’s brews include their Universale Pale Ale; Interurban IPA, WA’s best-selling craft beer; and seasonal single-hop, single grain favorite, Summer Ale; as well as Bourbon Barrel Aged Abominable (“BBomb”); Bourbon Barred Aged Dark Star; the legendary Rusty Nail, a bourbon barrel aged beer brewed with licorice and aged on cinnamon bark before resting in 15-year old barrels for 15 months; GABF Silver Medal winner Field to Ferment Fresh Hop Pale.
In addition to its reputation for consistent quality and innovation, Fremont Brewing is a recognized leader in sustainable brewing operations and community engagement such as giving generously to non-profit organizations, promoting the organic hop and local grain markets, and reducing their carbon footprint through conservation and green technologies. It is for these and many other initiatives that they won Washington’s Manufacturer of the Year Award for 2015 and King County’s Best Small Business Award in 2014.
“Montana is like family to us,” said Matt Lincecum, Fremont Brewing’s Founder and Owner. “How can you say no when your family wants beer? So, we’re excited to share our beer with our brothers and sisters from another mother in Big Sky Country, Montana!”

As noted above, Fremont Brewing is growing fast. I recently had the opportunity to visit their new canning line, and it’s quite impressive. They’re able to fill and package over 250 cans per minute, which is important when you’ve got 7 different states waiting for your beers to arrive. Good things are coming your way, Montana. Enjoy.
Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
