Belltown Brewing Company has been pretty busy since opening their doors. Having received their on-site brewery license just this past October, Head Brewer, Adam Frantz, got busy right away creating new beers including: Bellfounder Pumpkin Porter, Belltown Coffee Brown, Bell St Whete Raspberry and their Harvest Lager. Their popular Speakeasy IPA has also been incredibly successful on tap at the Showbox Market and SODO, and Adam has been honored with the 2018 Glen Hay Falconer Foundation Scholarship. More on that below.
Next, Belltown announced an ambitious plan in conjunction with Schooner Exact Brewing Company to create a new, limited-series collaboration brewery named SODO Brewing, whose early offerings will include two IPAs, a Lager, and a Stout. Even with all of that going on, Adam has still found the time to create three new beers: Renegade IPA, Chain Bite Black IPA and Mocha Stout.
Here is some more information from Belltown Brewing Company:
6.1%, 50 IBU. More than double the hops of the Speakeasy IPA, also uses an experimental lupulin powder to boost aroma.
Chain Bite Black IPA
6.6%, 74 IBU. A new IPA that’s part of a rotating “bikes and beers” series, inspired by the addition of the protected bike lane in front of the brewery. Black in color, Adam used de-bittered black malts to strip out some roast character. This IPA has a piney and citrus hop profile. “Close your eyes and you’d never know it was a dark beer,” – says Adam.
5%, 25 IBU. After the success of the Belltown Mexican Chocolate Stout, Adam decided to use the same stout base but strip out the spice and add some house-brewed cold brew coffee and cocoa nibs. Served on Nitro for a creamy mouth feel.
On Tap at the Showbox:
In addition, Belltown Brewing has been serving its Speakeasy IPA on draft at both the Showbox Market and SODO locations, with sales doubling that of Elysian’s Spacedust IPA. An exciting moment for Adam and Belltown Brewing with small craft beer competing with the big guys!
Adam wins Beer Education Scholarship:
More recently, Adam has been honored with the 2018 Glen Hay Falconer Foundation Scholarship in collaboration with the American Brewer’s Guild. The scholarship offers full-tuition to the Guild’s ‘Intensive Brewing Science & Engineering’ course, a remote, 22-week course that begins in January 2018 and runs through June 2018.
The focus of the course is on the fundamentals of beer production and quality assurance. Read more about the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation Scholarship and the American Brewer’s Guild here.
Regrade IPA, Chain Bite Black IPA and Mocha Stout are available on tap now at Belltown Brewing Company along with several other selections, including Speakeasy IPA which, as noted above, you can also find on draft at both Showbox locations.
I’d also like of offer my congratulations to Adam Frantz on winning the Beer Education Scholarship. This course will only help ensure that the beers Adam brews for Belltown Brewing (and SODO Brewing) are of the highest quality possible.
Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
