Are You Ready For The Next Beers From The Bottle Shop Collaboration Project?

Back in March of this year, I told you about the Bottle Shop Collaboration Project.  It’s a series of beers being produced by several local craft breweries that have teamed up with 11 different Seattle area bottle shops to create some special collaborative releases over the course of several months.

The first beer in the series was Soul Proprietor IPA, which was brewed by Cloudburst Brewing Company and tapped at all participating bottle shops in the Bottle Shop Collaboration Project (BSCP) at 5 pm on Friday, March 24th.  The second beer in the BSCP series was Instant Karma IPA from Fremont Brewing Company, which was released back on June 30th.  Now, the news has broken about the next beers on the way from the BSCP.

Leota Mae IPA Joins Bale Breaker’s Year-Round Lineup

Bale Breaker Brewing Company brews some pretty tasty beers.  You’re probably familiar with their popular Field 41 Pale Ale, Topcutter IPA or Bottomcutter IPA, since these three beers are part of their ‘Everyday’ (year-round) lineup.  They also, of course, brewed the official beer for Seattle Beer Week 2017: Fresh Off The Farm IPA.

Now, Bale Breaker is adding a fourth beer to their Everyday series: Leota Mae IPA.  It was named for the great-grandmother of one of Bale Breakers owners, and was created to honor the history of planting and harvesting hops in the Yakima valley, where Leota Mae used to work out in the hop fields.

What could be better than enjoying some delicious craft beers and tasty food from some of Seattle’s favorite breweries, food trucks and restaurants on a crisp, Fall evening in October?  I know, enjoying those tasty beers and delicious food all while helping raise money to help sick children’s dreams come true.

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington is in the business of making children smile.  They do whatever they can to grant as many wishes as possible to local children with life-threatening medical conditions and now, they’ve teamed up with several local businesses to bring you an event filled with beer, cider and food samplings from some of Seattle’s favorite breweries, food trucks and restaurants.

Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 007 From Firestone Walker Will Feature Australian Hops

Even before Firestone Walker Brewing Company retired their Proprietor’s Reserve Series of beers (which included their extremely popular Double Jack Imperial IPA), they started experimenting a bit more and coming out with some really unique and delicious IPAs.  By the time Double Jack was gone in late 2016 we were already seeing the 3rd beer in the Luponic Distortion Series and, by early 2017 we got Fortem, the first in Firestone’s new Leo v. Ursus Series of IPAs.

Now Firestone Walker is ready to debut the 7th iteration in the Luponic Distortion Series.  Just released in California and hitting the Seattle market within the next couple of weeks is Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 007, featuring three different Australian hop varieties.

Join Three Magnets And Tavour For A Beer Release And Free Tasting

A couple of years ago I told you about a beer delivery service named Tavour.  They send you daily emails with different beers you can order (from breweries both near and far) and then, every couple of weeks, Tavour ships the beers you’ve ordered out to you – or you can pick your orders up at their warehouse location in Seattle.

Naked City To Open For Lunch 7 Days A Week

Different people work different hours, which also means different people drink at different hours.  I myself, for example, work extremely early hours and am usually off work by the early afternoon.  As such, I’m a big fan of craft beer spots that are open in time for lunch (whether they serve food or not).  That way, I can go enjoy a few tasty craft beers right when I get off work, rather than having to wait until 3 pm, 4 pm or, in a few cases, even later for places to open.

Naked City Brewery & Taphouse in Greenwood has always understood this and, most days of the week (except for Mondays and Tuesdays), they’ve been opening at 11:30 am, which is perfect for the lunch crowd.  Starting this coming Monday, August 28th, however, they’ll be open at 11:30 am every day of the week, including Mondays and Tuesdays.  No more having to wait until 3 pm on Mondays or Tuesdays to enjoy a beer at Naked City.

Ninkasi Prepares To Start Canning Their Beers

It took me a while to warm up to cans.  I grew up in the era where the vast majority of beer that came in cans was horrible, mass-produced American Lagers.  That likely tainted my response a bit, but I also still believe that beer tastes better out of bottles than out of cans.  I’ve even read a few studies/blind tests that confirm this conclusion (albeit by a narrow margin).

Even so, I’ve come around on cans.  The taste difference between can vs. bottle is virtually imperceptible to most and there’s also the fact that many new, highly sought-after beers only come in cans now (some also on tap, if you can find ’em). Now, Ninkasi Brewing Company has decided to jump on the can wagon and just announced that they’ll start canning their beers.

Firestone Walker Announces Generation 1 IPA – Limited Release

If you want to get noticed in today’s craft beer World, you can’t rest on your laurels.  You’ve got to continue to innovate and keep coming out with new and interesting beers to keep the buzz going.  Firestone Walker Brewing Company understand this and it’s part of the reason they retired their Proprietor’s Reserve Series of beers – which included Opal (Dry Hopped Saison), Wookey Jack (Cascadian Dark Ale) and their wildly popular Double Jack Imperial IPA.

Around the same time they retired the Proprietor’s Reserve Series, Firestone Walker proceeded to release two new series of IPAs: The Luponic Distorion Series (Currently on #6) and the Leo v. Ursus Series (which consists so far of Fortem and Adversus).  Now, Firestone Walker is preparing to release a new,limited-release IPA named Generation 1 IPA.

Fresh Hop Season Kicks Off Next Week At Two Beers Brewing

Summer is waning and Fall is drawing closer each day.  That must mean it’s Fresh Hop time!  Each year, when it’s time for the hop harvest up in Yakima Valley, many local craft breweries prepare to brew their annual Fresh Hop beers – loaded up with fresh-picked hops right off the vine.

Two Beers Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) prides themselves on always being the first local brewery each year to debut their Fresh Hop IPA, and this year is no different.  They held their annual hop picking party, and brewed their Fresh Hop IPA back on August 9th.  By next week it will be ready to serve, and Two Beers is welcoming it with a Fresh Hop IPA release party on Wednesday, August 23rd.

Four Breweries Team Up To Host Ballard Oktoberfest

Is it really getting to be that time already?  Summer, especially in Seattle, always seems so darn short.  A couple of weeks ago I was already seeing pumpkin beers appearing on craft beer store shelves and now, here come the Oktoberfest announcements.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love Fall and the Seasonal craft styles that come along with it, but it’s a bittersweet reminder that the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer and Summer is starting to fade.

Of course, as I just mentioned, Fall’s arrival also means Oktoberfest biers and Oktoberfest celebrations.  The Märzen/Oktoberfest style is probably my favorite style of Lager.  Sure, a well made Pilsner is great on a hot Summer day, but I love the more toasty malt flavors of a good Märzen.  If you’re also a fan of a good Märzen and other German/European styles (Hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen, Kölsch, Vienna Lager, Roggenbier, etc.) then you’ll want to mark your calendar for September 16th and this year’s Ballard Oktoberfest.
