Firestone Walker Brewing Turns 20

Firestone Walker Logo

There are far too many great breweries out there for me to pick a single favorite.  There are a handful, however, that I would consider my top ranked breweries.  High up on that list is Firestone Walker Brewing Company.  They are masters of barrel fermentation, barrel aging and blending, and I have never had a single beer from them that wasn’t outstanding.

Now, as they prepare to turn 20, they have a whole list of special events planned.  Unfortunately for us here in Washington, most of these events take place down in California so, unless you have the mean to head South for a visit, we’ll have to celebrate vicariously with some delicious Firestone Walker beers.

For those of you able to make the trek to Paso Robles for a visit, Firestone Walker’s official 20th Anniversary celebration will be on October 29th from 11 am to 2:30 pm.  Tickets for the event go on sale tomorrow, 9/21.  Basically the way it will work is, purchase either three ($80) or six ($155) bottles of XX Anniversary Ale & get access to the party. Unlimited tastes of rare Firestone Walker beers, food, live music & more.

Bottles of XX Anniversary Ale should arrive at retail locations in Seattle by the end of the first week of November.  I’ll be picking up a few bottles to enjoy along with a few Firestone Walker bottles from my personal cellar.

Other Firestone Walker Anniversary Events:

Last Supper:

Date: Thursday, Oct. 27th, 6pm
Tickets on sale: Tuesday, Sept. 20th at 10am
Location: Firestone Walker Taproom Restaurant, Paso Robles
How it works: What do you do when you have a handful of aged beers & only a keg or two of each? You host a dinner party & serve them all. We dug deep into our Beer Library & discovered some hidden gems, the last of their kind, & decided it would be the perfect way to celebrate 20 years of Firestone Walker. A glimpse into our tap list includes our 10th Anniversary Ale, Rufus & PNC. Tickets are $250 per person & extremely limited. (TICKET LINK)

Barrelworks Liberation:

Date: Saturday, Oct 22nd, 11am – 2pm
Tickets on sale: Monday, Sept. 19th at 9am
Location: Barrelworks, Buellton
How it works: It’s Liberation time at Barrelworks & this time we’re releasing El Gourdo & Feral Peach into the wild! Purchase either three or six of each beer & gain access to the Día de los Muertos themed party. Unlimited beer tastes & bites, music, a costume contest (did someone say 3L prizes? Maybe…) & more. Don’t miss out on this wild time! (TICKET LINK)

Parabajava 2016 Release:

The beast is back!

We took our Russian Imperial Stout, Parabola, & infused it with coffee, this year from local Dark Nectar Roasting.

The 2016 vintage of Parabajava will be released on Saturday, Sept. 24thonly at the following locations:
Brewery Emporium (Paso Robles) – 10am
Barrelworks (Buellton) – 11am
Brewery Store (Venice) – 12pm

Four bottle max purchase per person, $20.99 plus tax & CRV each.
You’ve been warned.

Beer Brunch:

Deep fried bacon PB&J? Pancake tacos? Libations? That’s right! Introducing our Beer Brunch every Saturday & Sunday from 10am – 2pm exclusively at theFirestone Walker Propagator in Venice. We’ll see ya there!

With this amazing lineup of beers and events, I sure wish I lived near Paso Robles right now.  Believe it or not, I’ve never even had the chance to visit the brewery, but I hope to change all that by next year.  Firestone Walker’s 21st Anniversary celebration might not be as robust as this year’s festivities, but I’ll still be happy to be there.

To my knowledge, XX Anniversary Ale is the only beer from these events that we’ll see for sale in Washington.  If you want to get your hands on any El Gourdo, Feral Peach, Rufus, PNC or Parabajava, I suggest you talk to your California friends who like to trade and see what you can work out.  Also, don’t forget to grab yourself some Firestone Walker Oaktoberfest for all your Oktoberfest celebrations.  It’s on store shelves now.  Happy 20th Anniversary Firestone Walker!  Keep up the amazing work!

Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
