La Mort Bourbon Returns From Black Raven Brewing

Black Raven Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) has had great success with their La Mort series of beers.  It all started with La Petite Mort, a strong, Belgian Style Dark Ale that always draws a long line whenever Black Raven brings it (or its variants) to Belgian Fest or other local craft beer festivals.

After La Petite Mort came the award winning La Mort Bourbon and the award winning La Mort Rouge.  These variants took an already amazing and complex beer and enhanced it even more by aging it in bourbon barrels or wine barrel respectively.  The timing for the annual release of these variants can change, since Black Raven makes their decision on when to release these beers based on how they are maturing in the barrels.  Fortunately for us, Black Raven has decided that the time has come for the release of 2016 La Mort Bourbon.

Here is some more information about this release from Black Raven Brewing Company:

A rare bird release: 2016 La Mort Bourbon is one of our finest, award winning aged ales. This beer is a member of our Corbeaux Series and historically has been very sought after. This is the second vintage appearing in bottles.

Recent awards:

2016 North American Beer Awards
Gold Medal – Barrel Aged Strong Beer

2016 Washington Beer Awards
Bronze Medal – Wood & Barrel Aged Strong Beer

La Mort Bourbon is born from a marriage between La Petite Mort and freshly emptied Kentucky bourbon barrels. In La Mort Bourbon, we use multiple specialty malts to create a rich, complex beer and then follow with maturation in American oak bourbon barrels. 11.2% ABV.

This fine ale has been aged for months and is ready to drink. No further cellar time is required. 375ml bottles are $12.99 + tax, with a limit of four per person, per day.

This will also be distributed locally in limited quantities.

As noted above, La Mort Bourbon has been aged for a number of months already and is ready to drink.   No further aging is required but aging it further is, of course, your prerogative.  With beers like this, I usually pick up at least a few bottles; one to drink now and a couple to age a bit longer.  It will arrive this coming Saturday, July 16th when Black Raven Brewing Company opens their doors at noon and a limited quantity should appear shortly afterwards in local craft bottle shops.

Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
