Lowercase Brewing Company first opened their doors back in January of 2014, just a few months after the launch of Burdick Brewing Company, who they share a building with in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood. A few months back, however, the City of Seattle decided that the building that houses their taprooms was insufficient as it was and was requiring both breweries to make major and expensive upgrades to the building if they wanted to keep their taprooms there.
Unfortunately, this demand was too costly for either brewery. Burdick Brewing has since closed their taproom and, at least for now, become strictly a production brewery. They deliver kegs and bottles to local craft beer bars and bottle shops. Lowercase Brewing wanted to keep their taproom open, but couldn’t stay in the same location. As a result, the last day for Lowercase Brewing’s current taproom in South Park will be May 2nd, with a ‘Last Hurrah’ party scheduled for next Saturday, April 30th (followed by a ‘Kill the Keg’ party on May 1st). They will be moving to a new taproom on Airport Way South, set to open sometime this July.
Here is some more information about the move from Lowercase Brewing Company:
Hop in the LoWagon and buckle your seatbelt, because… Lowercase Brewing’s taproom is heading to Georgetown!
Born & bred in South Seattle, our brewery will most definitely remain in South Park, however, we’re relocating the taproom one neighborhood East onto Airport way. Expect more space, more activities, but the same Lowercase feel! The new taproom is expected to open in July!
Check out our new space (and update your address book):
6235 Airport Way S., Seattle, WA 98108
To focus on the new taproom construction and brewery expansion, our current taproom will be closing its doors on May 2nd. Don’t worry though; we’ve got all sorts of creative ways planned to bring you beers during this down time. From increased draft availability, to a whole bunch of weekly Farmers Markets… make sure to keep an eye on social media and don’t miss out on special ways to getLo! Some will be time-sensitive.
Join us for our last hurrah at the South Park taproom on April 30th. We’ll have food, entertainment, and the release of our collaboration “Valley Girl Kolsch” on draught and on cask (while available)! Then drink us dry on May 1st, as we host a “Kill the Keg” party with special prices on all our tapped beers.
We are so excited to take this next step together and bring more Lowercase beer to the good people of Seattle!
See you soon!!
As noted above, the brewery itself will remain at the current location in South Park. It’s only the taproom that’s moving. They’ll be a welcome addition to the ever changing Georgetown Neighborhood. Already home to Georgetown Brewing, Machine House Brewing, Full Throttle Bottles, Jules Mae’s Saloon and more.
I’ll try to verify this with Lowercase and let you know for sure. Watch for an announcement in a few months about the Grand Opening of the new taproom in July.
UPDATE: 10:30 am – Confirmed. The building shown in the photo above will be their new taproom.
Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
