Nearly a year ago, in March 2013, the number of craft breweries in the already brewery-crowded neighborhood of Ballard increased by one. That brewery, Populuxe Brewing, is getting ready to celebrate their first anniversary with a huge celebration that will be great fun for the whole family. There will be live music, great food, activities for the kids and, of course, great craft beer from Populuxe who will also be releasing a special strong ale to mark to occasion.
The celebration will get under way on Saturday, March 8th at the Populuxe Brewing tasting room and adjoining garage when they open their doors at 2 PM. To keep you entertained during the festivities, Populuxe has lined up a full day of live music starting at 3:00 PM and going until 9:30 PM.
The list of performers scheduled for the day includes:
- 3-3:30 PM: The Graces-classical duo (flute, harp, piano)
- 3:30-4:30 PM: Dobrero Band (classic rock)
- 4:30-5 PM: Melissa Levi
- 5-5:30 PM: Bridgette Kern
- 5:30-6:30 PM: KJTJ (eclectic rock/pop)
- 6:30-7:30 PM: Mother of Pearl (original music, soulful female lead)
- 7:30-8:30 PM: theZim & Arock (indie-folk-hop-tronica)
- 8:30-9:30 PM: Willie and the Whips (danceable country blues, cd release and potential bull whip demo)
- And DJ SNAX fills in the blanx
To keep your tummy full, the popular Seattle food truck Happy Grillmore will be on hand, serving up their delicious burgers and fries. Also, Dizzy’s Tumble Bus will be onsite to entertain the kids from 3 PM to 5 PM. “Dizzy’s Tumblebus and Bus Stop is a unique play and learn facility designed for children 8 years old and younger.”
Last but most definitely not least, what would a brewery anniversary celebration be without a new beer release? Well, Populuxe has that covered. To mark the occasion of their 1 year anniversary, Populuxe will be releasing Old Oddvar’s Anniversary Ale. This special strong ale is named after the old, “locally famous” auto shop that used to be where Populuxe Brewing is now. “Old Oddvar’s embraces the rich history of Ballard while celebrating the unwritten future of Populuxe Brewing. Old and new World hops and malt, combined with English yeast and a long cold storage help make this strong ale dry, smooth, delicious and dangerously drinkable.” Od Oddvar’s Anniversary Ale will be available at Populuxe Brewing and in select outlets starting on March 8th.
Old Oddvar’s Stats:
Mark your calendar now and plan on heading out to Ballard on March 8th to help Populuxe celebrate their first of many years to come. If you plan on bringing your kids, the best time would be between 3 PM and 5 PM, when Dizzy’s Tumble Bus will be there.
Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
