The South Park neighborhood of Seattle is another area that a few new craft breweries have decided to call home. With the South Park bridge set to finally reopen in April, it makes sense to be setting up shop once again in the area. The two most recent openings in South Park have been Lowercase Brewing and, in the very same building, Burdick Brewery. Now, joining them next week in South Park is Tin Dog Brewing.
Founded by the husband and wife team of Lisa and Eric Rough, Tin Dog has an emphasis on Belgian style beers. Their current tap lineup includes a White IPA, a Wit IPA, a Northwest Pale Ale and a Belgian Dubbel. I was fortunate to attend a preview event earlier today, and had the opportunity to try all of their beers.
Their White IPA is described as “A session IPA inspired wheat beer.”. Coming in at just 4.5% ABV and 51 IBUs, it was easy drinking with a huge, fluffy white head and a soft English-style IPA hop character, utilizing Citra and Amarillo hops. It’s also much lighter in color than your typical IPA, since it’s a wheat beer.
Next up, their Wit IPA is more of a Belgian style IPA, utilizing both pale and wheat malts and a Belgian Abbey yeast strain to impart a slightly more spicy character. Coming in at 5.5% ABV and 48 IBUs, it has a bit more punch than their White IPA and also has a bit of coriander to bring out the traditional Wit flavor.
Tin Dog’s Northwest Pale Ale was a bit less hoppy than I had expected for a a beer described as a ‘Northwest’ style Pale. Coming in at 5.5% ABV and 39 IBUs, it was a well done, basic Pale Ale. Nothing too fancy, but solid.
Last, but not least, Tin Dog’s Dubbel was a good, standard Belgian Dubbel. With a nice malt sweetness and slightly ‘winey’ character, it comes in at 6.5% ABV and 29 IBUs. All in all, a pretty nice starting lineup.
Tin Dog is set to open their doors to the public this coming Saturday, February 15th at noon. Their regular hours will be noon to 6 PM, Wednesday through Sunday. Then currently offer no food beyond pretzels and chips, but you’re welcome to bring in any outside food.
Tin Dog Brewing is located at 309 S Cloverdale Street, A2 in South Park. Mark your calendar for next Saturday and come on down to check them out. To see a few more photos from today’s preview event, look HERE on Facebook.
Drink responsibly and stay safe out there.
