Airways Brewing Company (CBM Sponsor) launched back in Spring of 2010, after years of planning and many successful homebrew competitions – including a 1st place win at the San Diego county fair for what would later become their Jet City ESB. Since then, they’ve put out a number of very popular beers, including Jet City ESB, their signature beer: Sky Hag IPA, Oatmeal PSA (Pale Session Ale), Final Departure Imperial Stout, Loud Lady Imperial IPA and many more.
After a taproom expansion at the brewery itself in early 2011, Airways also launched their 2nd location: Airways Brewing Beer & Bistro in November of 2011. The Bistro has been doing great since then, serving delicious food, Airways Brewing beers and a few guest taps. Now, to answer increased demand, Airways is ready to remodel and expand the Bistro from it’s current, meager 35 seats to over 150!

KENT, Wash. (January 31, 2014) – Airways Brewing Company today announced expansion and remodel plans for their Beer & Bistro, located in downtown Kent. This second location for Airways Brewing opened on November 1, 2011, and continues to draw craft beer lovers from around the country to the downtown area, earning the Best Economic Engine award from the Kent Downtown Partnership in 2013.
“The Bistro was something different for us and we didn’t know quite know what to expect,” said Alex Dittmar, founder and head brewer at Airways Brewing Company. “We took our already strong brand and built a solid reputation for quality. Thanks to our fantastic customers, we’ve decided to grow in downtown Kent and I think people are going to love what we have planned.”
The expanded restaurant will bring seating capacity from 35 to 150 seats. The additional space will include a family friendly seating area, while the current space will be remodeled and remain 21+.
A 3,000 square foot patio will be transformed into a gated garden space for outdoor music and entertainment, and year-round use thanks to fire pit tables and retractable awnings. A dilapidated kiosk out front will be stripped and rebuilt to house a grill and smoker as well as potential bar seating.
“We’re very excited about what these changes mean for our company, and the team that has helped build it,” said co-owner Dione Dittmar. “We also feel that our expansion fits in well with the City of Kent’s long-term plans for the area, as well as demand from Kent residents for more restaurants and retail in the heart of downtown.”
Construction is planned in two phases, starting in the next few weeks to make sure the outdoor area is ready for summer. The indoor construction is planned to start this summer.
Airways Brewing Company is working with Raven Commercial Real Estate as the developer of this property. Raven Commercial Real Estate is a full service commercial real estate firm focused on opportunities in the Pacific Northwest.
More seats, more beer, a beer garden with fire pits, a 21+ only area and a separate ‘family friendly’ area? Sounds great to me! Be sure to keep watching AirwaysBrewing.com and CraftBeerMonger.com for updates and keep enjoying Airways Brewing Company beers. You’ll be able to find an even stronger version of Loud Lady as a Triple IPA at 5 Triple IPA events coming up in the next two months.
